Oscar Isaac Is About To Break A Marvel Record With MCU Casting

Oscar Isaac has reportedly been cast as Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means he’s now broken a Marvel franchise record. Breaking records is something Marvel is quite familiar with; the MCU has set a new standard for the entertainment industry and has rivaled what Star Wars has been doing for over 40 years. But because the MCU has gotten so big in recent years and has even more projects on the way, that means more and more actors are joining the fold.

Naturally, Marvel has been looking at casting top tier actors for major roles like She-Hulk and Moon Knight, characters they expect to see carry parts of the franchise for years to come. Tatiana Maslany was reportedly cast in the former role, though she’s denied reports of her She-Hulk role. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be the first time a Marvel actor has downplayed their casting before an official announcement was made. And now Oscar Isaac has reportedly joined Marvel as Moon Knight, a superhero who’s essentially Marvel’s Batman.

The fact that Oscar Isaac is joining the MCU is astonishing in and of itself, and it’s a perfect casting for that character, but what’s even more interesting is that this will be his third Marvel role. Isaac recently voiced Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, and before that he played the eponymous villain in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse – a role that he’s expressed disdain for in the past. That means Isaac has now been in the X-Men, Spider-Man, and MCU franchises, thus setting a new record.

It’s not uncommon for Marvel actors to star in DC movies, and vice versa, but it’s rarer for actors to bleed over to other Marvel franchises – though it’s not like it hasn’t happened. Chris Evans famously played Human Torch in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies before landing the role of Captain America. Mahershala Ali is even among those who’s played multiple roles in the MCU, and he joins Isaac in having also voiced a character – Aaron Davis aka Prowler – in Into the Spider-Verse, so he, too, has been all over.

Though not officially confirmed yet, it certainly seems like Oscar Isaac will be joining the MCU in the near future as Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. There are a number of directions for the character to go in, and Isaac can deliver a performance that differs drastically from his other two Marvel roles, especially Apocalypse. Considering the fact that Moon Knight uses multiple personalities at times, Marvel would need a character actor like Isaac to pull it off – thankfully, they got him.
