Netflix’s Outer Banks teased that more Kooks versus Pogues drama is coming in season 2 with a brand new clip. The suspenseful teen drama hit the coveted number one spot on Netflix’s streaming chart after premiering in April 2020. Set in the scenic Outer Banks of North Carolina, the series essentially follows a working class group of friends who embark on a treasure hunt. John B (Chase Stokes) is the ringleader of the gang (known as Pogues), which includes his best friends Pope (Johnathan Daviss) and JJ (Rudy Pankow).
Kiara (Madison Bailey) technically rounds out the core Pogues, although she’s the daughter of a successful restaurant owner which puts her in Kook territory. Kooks are the elite seasonal residents of the community, with the teen members constantly clashing against their Pogue counterparts. A Romeo and Juliet-esque source of tension between the sparring classes is John B’s love interest Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), who is considered the princess of the Kooks. Season 1 saw major agitation and various brawls between the Kooks and Pogues, and Outer Banks season 2 is continuing to build on that.
Netflix assured Outer Banks fans that they can expect even more class confrontation in the sophomore season. Ahead of the July 30 release, the streaming giant shared a new clip called “Fired” that features JJ butting heads with Kelce (Deion Smith) at his restaurant gig. Check out the full clip below:

The promo scene features Kelce out to eat with Topper (Austin North) and another friend. JJ overhears the latter condemn John B while refilling water glasses. He unsurprisingly fumes and denounces their claims. Ultimately, things escalate and get physical between Kelce and JJ. As a result, JJ loses his job. Netflix captioned the clip as “Rule number 1: It’s always the kook’s fault. Never the pogue’s fault.”
Topper’s role in the action is worth noting as it provides a stark contrast to his season 1 ego. In the clip, he attempts to nip things in the bud even before Kelce and JJ go head to head. This could be a glimpse at what audiences can expect from the once vile Kook leader in Outer Banks season 2. Viewers saw a glimmer of his good side in season 1, episode 9 when he let Sarah and John B escape, and perhaps their disappearance has waned his anger.
While Outer Banks could be taking Topper down a similar redemptive route to Steve in Stranger Things, the Kooks versus Pogues drama is too juicy to totally abolish. Topper may shift into better waters, but the same probably won’t be said for his friends – at least not right away. If this new clip suggests the tone for season 2, fans can definitely anticipate tensions to be higher than ever.
