We have also seen talented actresses such as Laura Donnelly, Nell Hudson, Lotte Verbeek, and Lauren Lyle portray some very distinctive characters on the show. 10 Geillis: “Sometimes You Find Yourself On A Path You Never Expected. Doesn’t Mean It Can’t Lead You To A Bonny Place.”

Before Geillis became one of the worst people in the world, there was a time where she was an ally to Claire. As Claire was struggling to adapt to her new life, Geillis provided her with some words of wisdom – “sometimes you find yourself on a path you never expected. Doesn’t mean it can’t lead you to a bonny place.”

Although Geillis was wrong about a lot of things, she was right in this instance. Claire didn’t expect to fall through the stones but it did lead her to find happiness. She did end up finding her soulmate and starting a family. A light at the end of a tunnel indeed.

9 Claire: “Is There Ever A Good Reason For Rape, Master MacKenzie?”

In “Castle Leoch,” Claire continued to search for a way to get home as she was kept hostage in Colum MacKenzie’s home. She soon found herself interrogated by the Laird of Castle Leoch, with Colum expressing his suspicions about why Claire was walking around the woods in her “shift.”

When Claire tells him how she was accosted and nearly raped by Captain Randall in the woods, Colum asks why a gentleman would do this for “no good reason.” Immediately, Claire is quick to end the interrogation when she presses Colum to give her “a good reason.” Claire makes it clear she will not condone any misogynistic, sexist, and immoral behavior while she stays.

8 Brianna: “You Gave Up Jamie For Me. Now I Have To Give Him Back To You.”

Although Brianna may have had a rocky start with the fans because of her spoilt and bratty behavior, they eventually started to warm up to her when she began to support Claire. However, Brianna ended up getting into the fans’ good books when she decided to let Claire go so she could return to Jamie.

While fans had watched the bond between mother and daughter grow since Claire told her the truth, we soon see how much Brianna loves her mother. Although it’s hard for her to do so, Brianna selflessly lets Claire go because she knows how miserable she’s been. It just showed Brianna got some of her parents’ best traits.

7 Marsali: “I Want To Be Happy With Fergus […] Without Having To Worry About A Bairn.”

Marsali was another character that took the fans a while to warm up to due to the vendetta she held against Claire. However, fans started to warm to her when the writers began to develop the romance between Fergus and her.

As we all know, marriage in the eighteenth-century tended to be arranged rather than created out of love. They also believed a woman’s concerns should remain in the domestic sphere. Yet, Marsali refused to follow society’s expectations when she told Claire she would rather enjoy Fergus’s company first before she becomes a mother. It’s quite refreshing to see an eighteenth-century woman with more modern ideals.

6 Claire: “That Amount Of Time Doesn’t Exist.”

While Claire Fraser has proven she could be outspoken and witty, fans have also witnessed how passionate the surgeon can be. On several occasions, we have seen Claire become deeply invested in the welfare of others. Fans have also seen how selfless she is towards her family.

Yet, one of the more memorable traits we have seen is how completely devoted she is to Jamie. The love story between Jamie and Claire is like no other. However, no one realized how deeply their love ran until they were separated for twenty years. As Claire said, no matter how much time passed, she would have never forgotten Jamie.

5 Claire: “I’m Not The Meek And Obedient Type”

If there was one line that could easily summarize Claire’s character, it was when she said she wasn’t “the meek and obedient type.” As fans know, Claire is one of the few characters who cannot stand idly by and watch as someone else suffers. If she thinks somebody is in the wrong, she won’t hesitate to tell them so.

With a witty personality and sharp tongue, Claire also gained a huge fanbase for refusing to obey the male patriarchs of Clan MacKenzie. This even included Jamie, who tried to order her about because he believed it was his right to do so. No matter what fans think of Claire, you can’t help but admire her for sticking to her guns.

Everybody knows that Brianna had a very tight bond with Frank when she was growing up because Claire always maintained a distance from her. However, once Claire told the truth about her time-traveling nature, fans got to see her become Brianna’s role model.

As Claire contemplated whether she should stay for Brianna, Brianna managed to convince her mother that she would be okay. She also tells Claire that after learning of her altruistic and selfless nature, she hopes she could grow into that person. Considering how they started, it’s nice to see that Brianna views Claire as her role model.

3 Jenny: “You Can Talk To A Wee One In A Way You Canna Talk To Anyone Else… And That’s A Comfort To The Soul.”

In the aftermath of losing Faith, Jamie and Claire decided to return to Lallybroch and briefly stayed with Jenny and Ian. While “The Fox’s Lair” was full of action and drama, one of the most memorable scenes in the episode had to be between Jenny and Claire.

As Jamie was talking with his niece, Jenny observes how “you could pour your heart out [to a baby] without choosing your words or holding anything back.” She also adds that it provides comfort to the soul because you can do so without feeling judgment from others. Considering Claire is a time-traveler, she was able to relate easily.

2 Mrs. Graham: “Don’t Spend The Rest Of Your Days Chasing A Ghost.”

In season 2, fans found out that Claire was forced to return to the twentieth-century for reasons unknown (as of yet). As Claire and Frank were reunited, the historian thought it would be best if she recuperated at Reverend Wakefield’s house. However, instead of relaxing, Claire decided to scour through the history books to see if Jamie survived Culloden.

After spending weeks torturing herself for answers, Mrs. Graham decides to give her some advice. She tells Claire that while she should treasure the “extraordinary adventure” she had been on, she shouldn’t spend the rest of her life chasing a ghost. Especially if holding onto the past was prohibiting her from moving forward with her future.

1 Jenny: “Love Forces A Person To Choose. You Do Things You Never Imagined You Could Do Before.”

One of the best quotes in the entire series had to be from Jenny Fraser in season 1. In “The Search,” fans saw Jenny and Claire team up when they found out Jamie had been taken by the English Redcoats. While on the road, the two women manage to track down a British patrol and kidnap one of the couriers.

Since the courier refuses to co-operate, Jenny then decides to torture the man – much to Claire’s dismay. Noticing Claire’s judging looks, Jenny remarks that she does not regret her actions because they were out of love for her brother. Claire agrees loving Jamie has made her contemplate the unimaginable too.
