Although Outriders is designed to accommodate both solo players and those teaming up with friends, many have found that that the game’s looter-shooter action is best enjoyed with a party. Picking more support-oriented classes for solo play like the Technomancer or Pyromancer can add to the game’s difficulty even without raising World Tiers, and it’s generally accepted that either the Trickster or Devastator is the best solo class in Outriders. Outriders in teams have more options when dealing with different enemies in game, but getting a group together is hard when players are experiencing matchmaking issues.

Along with server issues in Outriders, players have had difficulty matchmaking during the game’s launch week. In response, People Can Fly temporarily disabled crossplay between consoles and PC to focus on securing quality matchmaking between similar devices. The developer has simultaneously been troubleshooting server and matchmaking issues, and while Outriders servers are currently in their best state since launch, matchmaking troubles continue to surface. People Can Fly has recently offered another temporary solution while it continues to investigate problems with matchmaking.

On the official Outriders Twitter account, People Can fly has responded to player complaints with a statement acknowledging that the developer is aware of the matchmaking issues and have a potential fix. According to the developer, if players turn off crossplay in the game settings, matchmaking between similar consoles should improve. To turn off crossplay, players can simply go to the Options menu, scroll down the Gameplay tab to “enable crossplay,” and toggle it off.

Following the developer’s response, several players took to Twitter to ask about specific situations in which they were unable to connect with friends or experienced severe lag and glitching enemies. Apparently some players are also experiencing a similar inventory wipe bug that first originated in the Outriders demo. People Can Fly responded to several of these questions and said that it plans to reveal more information concerning bug fixes, PC/console crossplay, and patch solutions in this week’s upcoming development update.

Development updates for Outriders during its demo days were pretty transparent and it seems like People Can Fly plans on continuing that trend. The full game is approaching the end of its first week available to the masses, and despite various connection issues it has drawn a substantial player base. Launching day one on Xbox Game Pass helped Outriders find a large audiences on console, but judging by Steam player counts the game has also fared well on PC. Hopefully a more permanent solution to matchmaking issues comes with the next developer update so Outrider teams can fully enjoy all that the game has to offer them.

Outriders is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
