All the fans of the sitcom Parks and Recreation will unanimously agree that Leslie Knope is a treasure house of compliments – heartening, quirky, genuine, creative, random, crazy, and sometimes, downright weird. Leslie knows how to value her relationships, by being the biggest cheerleader anyone has ever seen.

Leslie gives her stamp of approval the only way she knows how to, by showering people with the most random, bizarre, and heartwarming compliments. Certain compliments fill viewers with warmth while others are confusing or, on rare occasions, make fans squirm in their seats.

10 Best: “Now I Have 2 Best Friends, Ann And Ann, One More Beautiful Than The Other.”

Leslie and Ann’s friendship is one of the best ever written in the history of TV. There are adorable and genuine moments that stay with people forever.

The two people who didn’t even know each other at the beginning of the series, become the best of friends by the end of it. Leslie compliments Ann for being beautiful while simultaneously affirming that she is Leslie’s best friend.

9 Weird: “Sperm That Is Worthy Of Your Perfect Eggs Does Not Grow On Trees.”

Ann decides she wants to be a mother and she wants to do it on her own. Leslie, being the over- supportive friend that she always is, persuades her to wait for sometime before making a life-changing decision.

When Ann is disillusioned by the choices at Pawnee and considers looking at sperm banks in Eagleton, Leslie puts her foot down by saying the above statement. Even though it is quite well-intentioned, the framing of the compliment itself is quite weird and uncomfortable.

8 Best: “You rainbow-infused space unicorn”

It was not for nothing that Chris Traeger takes a crash course from Leslie to compliment Ann just before they leave Pawnee. This is one of the many times when Leslie strings together a bunch of seemingly random words to churn out a compliment tailored for Ann.

The phrase is filled with all of the best words Leslie can think of, and she makes it work with her genuine adoration for Ann. It’s a sweet, cheerful, and happy collection of words that Leslie uses.

7 Weird: “You’re A Beautiful, Talented, Brilliant, Powerful, Musk-Ox”

A musk ox might not be the best choice of words to refer to anyone, especially your best friend. But for Leslie, it seems to be an object worthy of using in a compliment to Ann. At an informal gathering celebrating the engagement of Leslie and Ben, the party witnesses one misfortune after another.

While Leslie and Ben try to fix these, Ann offers to take care of the needs of the people at the party. Leslie is grateful and says that Ann is “a good friend.” And then continues to thank the ox.

6 Best: “It Is Like The Ann Perkins Of Dresses.”

When Leslie and Ben decide to prepone their wedding because, according to Leslie, Pawnee Commons Gala was “the best night ever”, and wished for them to get married that night. Ben also agrees with her plan. The dress is obviously not ready. Leslie assigns Ann the dress duty, which she takes very seriously.

Ann gathers up all the meaningful bills, documents, and memos from Leslie’s career and stitches them. Leslie looks at the frock and says “it is the most beautiful object I have ever seen.” Leslie’s standards are very high, and since she holds Ann in such high regard, it is somehow logical that she considers the most fitting compliment to compare her dress with Ann.

5 Weird: “He’ll Never Lasso Another Heifer As Fine As You, Annie Oakley.”

Ann confesses that she got caught up in her current relationship with Ricky and had to break it off. She also says that she wants to change the fact that her personality gets swept up in whatever guy she’s dating.

Leslie is completely understanding and makes Ann feel better by saying that Ricky will never get anyone as good as Ann. But the way in which she chooses to frame her sentiments is unnecessarily convoluted and weird.

4 Best: “You Are The Most Beautiful Glowing Sun-Goddess Ever.”

This is the compliment Leslie gives Ann when she is introduced to Oliver Perkins-Traeger, the baby born to Ann and Chris, for the first time at the hospital.

Ann had just given birth to Oliver and Aunt Leslie is emotional, saying that “he is so beautiful and you (Ann) are so beautiful, I mean you are always beautiful but right now you are the most beautiful glowing sun-goddess ever”. Even this particular episode, “Galentines Day”, in Season 6, starts with Leslie telling Ben that “the only thing I am crazy about is a magnificent Manta-Ray named Ann Perkins”.

3 Weird: “The Groom Wore A Butt So Perfect You Can Make An Angel Hang Itself”.

Ben Wyatt, Leslie’s husband, becomes one of the most loved characters on the show. In addition to enjoying his nerdiness, his admiration for Leslie, and his genuine care for people, there is one more thing about him that comes up quite often – his butt.

Leslie does not keep her feelings about Ben’s butt to herself but instead chooses to compliment it at various points during the course of the show. This particular quote is featured in the ‘Local’ newspaper which talks about Leslie and Ben’s wedding on their first anniversary, which was written by Leslie herself.

2 Best: “Oh, Ann, I Always Forget Because You’re So Pretty, You’re Not Used To Rejection.”

This is one of the statements that Leslie makes that inevitably ends up being a compliment towards Ann. The Annual Trail survey has been a tradition for the men of the Parks and Recreation Department. However, the Annual survey is only a cover for their secret hunting trip.

In this particular episode, “Hunting Trip”, the Parks and Rec Department for the first time includes women in their trip to the Annual Trail Survey at Slippery Elm Park, courtesy of Leslie Knope. When they set out to hunt, Leslie suggests that they pair up in mixed doubles, a boy and a girl, as a team. Ann is perplexed as Leslie had promised her that she would hunt with Ann but now wants to team up with Ron instead. Leslie rejects Ann as her teammate but somehow ends up complimenting her.

1 Weird: “Ann, You Cunning Pliable Chestnut-Haired Sunfish”

This is one of the most random compliments ever, even by Leslie’s standards. The first episode of Season 6 begins with Leslie and Ann working towards securing votes for the recall campaign against Leslie who is now the councilwoman of Pawnee.

When Leslie seems a little demotivated, Ann reminds her of what a wise woman once said to her “Ann, you cunning pliable chestnut-haired sunfish, Phase 26 is the key to my plan”.
