The Peppa Pig children’s series may seem innocuous at first, but here are 10 occasions in which the show was actually a pretty bad influence.

The ever-popular Peppa Pig is globally recognized for her British accent and her bossy nature. The animated series, which started in 2004, has gained a worldwide cult following thanks to Peppa’s pouty and sassy nature. Audiences worldwide remain fascinated with the show, whether for good or bad. This has led to controversy and criticisms from parents, governments, and more. The pink pig has been criticized for teaching children to be naughty, and others have accused Peppa Pig of sexism and gender stereotypes, and for promoting “gangster attitudes,” as ridiculous as that sounds.

She may be naughty, but Peppa is funny, and, more importantly, fun to watch. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that she is, at times, a pretty terrible influence.

10 When She Led An All-Girls Coup

Peppa is often a bad sister to her baby brother, George Pig. In “The Treehouse,” Peppa and her friends unanimously decide that the Treehouse, built for both her and George, are now for girls only! Heading a treehouse dictatorship, Peppa kicks out George and his friend, Richard Rabbit.

Exacerbating the situation, she shows no remorse when her coup makes both George and Richard cry. By the episode’s end, she reveals a competitive side when she demands a flag for her treehouse so it can rival the boys’ new castle.

9 When She Refused To Let George Play With Her

As a big sister, Peppa is often adamant that she is in charge. When her best friend, Suzy Sheep, comes over in the episode “Best Friend,” Peppa tells George that he cannot play with them. The game is just for “big girls,” she cautions sternly after George dares to put on a hat she throws on the floor.

George, who really likes playing with his big sister, tries to join in the fun once again, but Peppa crudely dismisses him. She tells him that he must go play “somewhere else.” Rude.

8 When She Was The Playground’s Chief Hypocrite

Sometimes, Peppa Pig is a preschool equivalent of a great villain. She is proud, bossy, and certain that the rules never apply to her. In “The Playground,” audiences see her laugh at other people’s discomfort, despite being petulantly adamant that her own embarrassment is not funny. After lecturing her friends that they are “doing it all wrong,” Peppa decides to show them the “right way to swing across” the climbing frame.

With much fanfare, demanding that all eyes are on her, she ends up embarrassing herself. A few minutes later, she mocks Daddy Pig for also getting stuck.

7 When She Fat-shamed Daddy Pig At The Playground

Peppa Pig is widely criticized for the family’s sexist treatment of the patriarch, Daddy Pig. Daddy Pig is easy-going and down-to-earth, and, as such, takes his family’s insults in stride. Despite this, he is constantly mocked by the rest of the family, treated as the family’s discarded scapegoat.

In “The Playground,” Daddy Pig gets stuck halfway down the slide when he attempts to help George down. Peppa, who told him beforehand that he is too big to fit down a slide, proceeds to laugh at him. Mummy Pig and Peppa’s friends all join in.

6 When She Got Angry At George For Being Sick

In “George Catches A Cold,” Peppa accuses George of not being “really properly ill.” She rationalizes her accusation, stating that his cold does not require hospitalization.

While George shows clear signs of illness and is obviously miserable, Peppa shows no signs of empathy nor caring for George as a big sister. At bedtime, she lectures him to stop sneezing so loudly and gets frustrated when the toddler is unable to control the volume of his sneezes. When George finally falls asleep, she selfishly declares that “it’s so nice and quiet!” Again, rude.

5 When She Made George Cry

In the episode “Snow,” Peppa and George happily play outside in the snow. Peppa teaches George how to throw snowballs, and they both begin a snowball fight. Peppa soon makes a very big snowball and throws it at George, causing him to fall over and stunning him in the process.

Peppa has been criticized for being a bully to her younger brother. However, this is one of the few times when Peppa is accidentally mean to George. Even better, she apologizes immediately and has the good sense to move on to a different game.

4 When She Fat-Shamed Daddy Pig At Home

As a child, Peppa can often be hurtfully honest. In “Daddy Gets Fit,” Peppa truthfully tells a deluded Daddy Pig that he doesn’t look very fit and that his tummy is “quite big.” Her questions about the state of Daddy Pig’s health shames him into admitting that he needs to keep fit. This, in turn, alerts Mummy Pig who tells Daddy Pig to begin exercising immediately.

After unsuccessfully pressuring Daddy Pig to complete 100 sit-ups, she condescendingly lectures him, saying: “To get fit, you have to exercise every day.”

3 When She Fat-Shamed Daddy Pig In The Garden

Peppa is well-known for throwing hurtful insults and jabs at her dad. In particular, “silly daddy” is a well-recognized Peppa Pig phrase, as is “daddy’s big tummy.” Never in the show is Peppa taught the importance of choosing words wisely and not verbally abusing them or hurting their feelings.

Indeed, in “The Treehouse,” she creates the secret password, “daddy’s big tummy” for entry into the treehouse. Daddy Pig looks crestfallen by her choice of words, but Peppa and the rest of the Pig family laugh it off as a big joke.

2 When Accused Her Best Friend Of Cheating

“The Quarrel” begins with Peppa and Suzy Sheep playing Snap. The narrator emphasizes that the two anthropomorphic animals are best friends. Nevertheless, Peppa gets angry when Suzy wins twice in a row. She immediately and baselessly accuses Suzy of cheating.

Later, Mummy Pig encourages Peppa to call Suzy, but this escalates the quarrel because Peppa obstinately refuses to apologize for her behavior. The quarrel is resolved when Daddy Pig steps in and encourages the best friends to apologize to each other. Once again, Peppa is not taught the error of her selfish, villainous behavior.

1 When She Brutally Hung Up On Her Best Friend

“Whistling” is one of the show’s most famous episodes. The episode follows a forlorn Peppa trying to learn how to whistle, but declaring it “impossible.” In an attempt to find sympathy, she calls Suzy Sheep to parler about her disappointment. Peppa is originally happy to find solidarity in the fact that Suzy can’t whistle. But, once Suzy demonstrates that she can indeed whistle with no previous practice, Peppa immediately hangs up on Suzy. Once again, Peppa’s rudeness is played off as a joke. Once again, rude.
