Now that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have been released, fans have discovered a duplication glitch that allows players to clone their Pokémon. Thanks to Pokémon BDSP, newcomers and longtime fans alike are getting to adventure across the Sinnoh region and make new discoveries. While the remakes have stayed mostly true to their original counterparts, there are a few new features. This includes at least one unintentional new feature for the game -Pokémon BDSP’s duplication glitch.
Cloning Pokémon isn’t necessarily new to the series. For decades, players have been pairing up Ditto with other Pokémon in daycares for eggs and duplicates, essentially cloning them for trades or better stats. However, certain Pokémon (like Legendaries) can’t be paired up with Ditto. The recently discovered duplication glitch in Pokémon BDSP lets players clone whichever species they want, and it doesn’t appear to have a limit to how often this can occur.
Obviously, a glitch this big may be fixed in a future update. For now, though, players who want to clone their newest catches in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can do so to their hearts’ content. The duplication glitch in Pokémon BDSP was first discovered by Twitter user Kevinfor5 and has since been corroborated by several news outlets and users online. Any players who are wanting to clone their Pokémon in the Diamond and Pearl remakes may want to do so quickly in case the glitch is repaired in a patch.
How To Clone Pokémon In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Thankfully, cloning Pokémon with the duplication glitch in Pokémon BDSP is pretty straightforward and easy. Players will first need to go to Solaceon Town daycare and access their boxes. Once this is done, they’ll need to put two Pokémon in the same position in different boxes. After swapping the two Pokémon and depositing one in daycare, there should be a glitch at the bottom of the list. Players will then need to select a Pokémon they don’t mind losing since it will be deleted after this, and place it in the Battle Box. Then, they’ll need to choose the Pokémon they want to clone and place it in the Battle Box. They’ll then need to view its summary screen before clicking back out and seeing that Pokémon has been cloned.
The duplication glitch in Pokémon BDSP also works for items. So, if a player wants to start cloning items, all they have to do is repeat this same process but give the Pokémon they’re cloning the item to hold. This will cause both the Pokémon and its held item to duplicate. This process can be repeated as much as the player desires.
While some players may choose to avoid this glitch, since it can make the game infinitely easier and can exploit trading, it’s still a nice way to clone a favorite Pokémon or try to get multiples of a Legendary. For now, the duplication glitch in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is still active, but it may not stay that way forever.
