Pokémon BDSP How To Get The Wave Incense (& What It Does)

The Wave Incense is one of the battle items players can expect to find in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and it’s best used on Wate-type Pokémon. Every Pokémon can be equipped with a Held Item that is used for battle, providing some benefit with regard to offensive power, defensive strength, health recovery, and more. Additionally, there are both single-use and repeat-use items in Pokémon BDSP, so players need to be aware of which type of item they’re giving their Pokémon.

Fortunately, the Wave Incense is one of the items that players can give their Pokémon for repeat use, similar to the Destiny Knot in Pokémon BDSP. The Wave Incense is one of the nine Incenses that are scattered throughout the Sinnoh region, and each has its own unique effect. The Wave Incense is an item that will strengthen Water-type moves.

For players looking to give their Water-type Pokémon an offensive boosting item in Pokémon BDSP, the Mystic Water, Water Plate, Sea Incense, and Wave Incense all provide the same effect. When given to a Pokémon, these items all boost the damage of a Water-type move by 20%. Additionally, these items all stack with a Water-type Pokémon’s STAB bonus, bringing the total damage boost to 80% of the Water-type move’s base damage. All types of Pokémon in BDSP have strengths and weaknesses that can be enhanced or exploited by stacking these kinds of power-ups, which is why the Wave Incense is a highly desirable item.

Surf to Find Wave Incense In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The Wave Incense can be found on Route 210 in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. However, before players can find the Wave Incense, they’ll have to use both Surf and Waterfall. Players must Surf from the side of Route 210 furthest from Celestic Town and use Waterfall on the left waterfall. Next, they will need to continue across the water to the left and back toward Celestic Town. They will need to travel down the second waterfall and will find the Wave Incense on a small patch of land. While it isn’t required, players can navigate this route easier by using Defog in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The unique feature of Wave Incense in Pokémon BDSP is that it allows trainers to breed Mantine to hatch Mantyke, a baby Pokémon. In order to breed Mantine to have a Mantyke egg, a Mantine must be holding the Wave Incense. It doesn’t matter if the second Pokémon is another Mantine, Ditto, or another male Pokémon in the same egg group, as long as a Mantine is holding the Wave Incense. Of course, if Mantine is breeding with another species of Pokémon in the same egg group then the Mantine has to be female as well.

Mantine and Mantyke actually have the same egg moves, but because Mantyke can make use of the Eviolite item, it has potential as a good support Pokémon. Eviolite benefits unevolved Pokémon by raising their Defense and Special Defense stats by 50%, but unfortunately, this item is not in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl so Mantyke can’t ascend to its full potential.
