Pokémon BDSP Snowpoint Gym Guide Candice Lineup & Weaknesses

Candice is the seventh of eight gym leaders in Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. As the leader of the Snowpoint Gym, Candice specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. Trainers must defeat her in order to obtain their Icicle Badge, the second-to-last badge they must earn before they’re eligible to take on Sinnoh’s Elite Four.

The floor of the Snowpoint Gym is coated in ice, and players must use it to gain momentum to slide into the snowballs in the center fast enough to break them. After solving the puzzle and battling past the trainers, players will be able to reach the platform where Candice awaits them.

Ice-type Pokémon are strong against Grass, Ground, Flying, and Dragon-type Pokémon, and they’re resistant to other Ice-types. However, Ice-types are weak against Fire, Water, Steel, and other Ice-types, and Fire, Rock, Fighting, and Steel moves will be super effective against them. Trainers with a good party composition and an effective strategy will be able to melt through Canidce’s icy Snowpoint Gym.

How To Beat Candice In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Candice’s party of Pokémon is the same as the one she used in the original Diamond & Pearl games. However, they’ve all been revamped in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl with a new set of moves to challenge players. Unlike the other gym leaders so far, Candice has four Pokémon in her party instead of three.

Snover / Grass & Ice / Level 38

Candice’s Snover also has the Snow Warning ability, which will cause it to hail and do damage to any non-ice type at the end of every turn.

Sneasel / Dark & Ice / Level 38

Medicham / Fighting & Psychic / Level 40

Abomasnow / Grass & Ice / Level 42

Like her Snover, Candice’s Abomasnow also has the Snow Warning ability. It holds a Sitrus Berry to restore its health when its HP gets low.

Candice’s team accounts for her Pokémons’ ice-type weaknesses fairly well with their movesets, so it requires a bit of strategy to take her down. Fighting-type Pokémon are a great choice for this fight since they’re strong against Ice and resist both Ground and Grass moves, allowing them to counter Snover and Abomasnow. Fire and Steel-types will also be strong against Snover and Abomasnow, but Snover’s Water Pulse will cause trouble for Steel-types, and Abomasnow’s Earthquake will counter both Steel and Fire-types.

Fighting-types will also counter Candice’s Sneasel with their advantage over Dark-types, but they’ll have to watch out for her Medicham, whose Psychic-type makes it strong against fighting. Medicham can be beaten with a Ghost-type as it’s effective against psychic and will allow trainers to avoid taking too much damage from Ice Punch or Rock Slide.

Once trainers defeat her, Candice will reward them with their Icicle Badge, which will allow them to use the Hidden Move Rock Climb. They will also receive five TM72s, which teach the move Avalanche. Candice will also give players her set of Stickers to customize their Poké Balls.
