Pokémon BDSP Where To Find The Light Ball Item (& What It Does)

The Light Ball is a unique Held Item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As players explore the Sinnoh region, they will come across hundreds of different items, each with its own special effects. Held Items are there to be given to a player’s Pokémon to provide them with an advantage inside and outside of battle. There are also special evolutionary Held Items that help Pokémon reach the next stage in their evolutionary cycle. Although, one of the more interesting items in the Pokémon series is the Light Ball and is only available for Pikachu.

If the Light Ball is given to a Pikachu, its Special Attack stat will increase by double. Outside of being the mascot of the Pokémon series, this is the only Pokémon this item will work for. Light Ball doesn’t even work for the other evolutionary stages in Pikachu’s life, Pichu and Raichu. It is exclusive to Pikachu out of the hundreds of Pokémon in the series. Since most of Pikachu’s moveset is focused on Special Attacks like Thunder and Thunderbolt, the Light Ball can make Pikachu even stronger.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the only way to obtain a Light Ball is by catching as many wild Pikachu as possible. Wild Pikachu have a five percent chance of holding a Light Ball when it is captured. As an alternate method, players can also use the Thief TM to steal it from the wild Pikachu. This will make it easier to save on PC storage instead of stuffing the box with random Pikachu.

Where To Find Pikachu in Pokémon BDSP

To find a wild Pikachu, players can go to the Trophy Garden within Pokémon Diamond and Pearl located in Pokémon Mansion on Route 212. If players go to the back of the mansion, there will be the Trophy Garden, which is a large mass of grass where players can encounter new Pokémon daily. Every day, players can speak with the NPCs in the Pokémon Mansion to find out which Pokémon will appear for the day, including rare spawns like Castform, Porygon, and Eevee. Fortunately, Pikachu is not directly attached to the daily spawn mechanic, so just head to the back of the Trophy Garden and it will always be in the rotation.

There are five Pokémon that appear outside of this rotation, Staravia, Roselia, Kricketune, Pichu, and Pikachu. Pikachu is still a rare spawn, regardless of the time of day so it might take a while for it to appear. Just be patient and capture or steal from every Pikachu that appears. Trainers looking to find a Pichu will have better luck searching in the morning since it has a higher chance of spawning during this time when compared to Day or Night. After finding the Light Ball, give it to a favorite Pikachu and instantly make it one of the strongest Special Attackers in the game.
