Pokémon Crown Tundra Is Regieleki Or Regidrago The Better Legendary

Pokémon Sword & Shield’s newest DLC, The Crown Tundra, has seen the return of almost every Legendary Pokémon to ever appear in the series. In addition, several new Legendary Pokémon and new forms of returning Legendaries have also been introduced to the game. Calyrex, Spectrier, and Glastrier are the newest Legendary Trio making their debut appearance in The Crown Tundra, while the Legendary Kanto Birds each received a regional variant. The other two Legendary Pokémon introduced in The Crown Tundra were Regieleki and Regidrago. Like many of the Legendary Regi Pokémon, these two carry many similarities and differences.

Regieleki and Redrago are locked away in a temple in The Crown Tundra, just like all of the other Regis. In order to get their temple to open, players will need to catch all three of the original Regis, Regice, Registeel, and Regirock, and have them in their party. After catching them all, the new Regi’s temple door will open. From there, players will have a choice to make: Do they want Regieleki or Regidrago? Much like Glastrier and Spectrier, players can only pick one of the Pokémon per game. This is a difficult decision that players will have to make wisely.

Both of these Pokémon suffer from a limited ability and move pool. Regieleki has the Transistor ability, which boosts the damage of Electric-Type attacks by 50%, while Regidrago has Dragon’s Maw, which boosts the damage of Dragon-type attacks by 50%. As a result of their abilities, almost all of their moves are the same type, with the vast majority of Regieleki’s moves being Electric and Regidrago’s being Dragon. The limitations don’t give these Pokémon much versatility, but considering their abilities and stats, they also don’t have to do much outside of what they’re best at.

Pokémon Sword & Shield: Why Regieleki Is The Best New Regi

All Regi Pokémon have at least one 200-point base stat. For Regidrago, that’s a 200 base HP stat, which is helpful because it lacks defensive bulk; both its base Defense stats are only at 50. Outside of bulk, Regidrago can hit relatively well, with its 100 base Attack and Special Attack stats. Its base Speed is a respectable 80, so it’ll be faster than slow Pokémon, but slower than fast ones.

The thing that really brings this Pokémon together is its Dragon’s May ability, which helps make up for its limited move pool. Having a 100 Attack stat and receiving a 50% damage boost thanks to Dragon’s Maw – on top of a STAB boost – means Regidrago has some serious knockout power. Couple this damage boost in with its signature move, Dragon Energy, which deals 150 base damage and has 100 accuracy, and Regidrago looks like an actual threat in the right hands.

For as good as Regidrago might look on paper, Regieleki is better. With a 200 base Speed stat, Regieleki is the fastest Pokémon in the game. It suffers from the same lack of bulk as Regidrago, with only 50 for both base Defense stats, but it also has only 80 base HP, making it even frailer. Thanks to its Speed stat, though, Regieleki will almost always go first. Regieleki’s ability gives it a ton of knockout power, just like Reidrago, but it benefits from a more versatile move pool.

While Regidrago is almost always going to be used as some sort of sweeper, Regieleki can be more of a support Pokémon. Electroweb, Thunderwave, Light Screen, Reflect, Volt Switch, and Thunder Cage give Regieleki a somewhat respectable list of support moves that will almost always go first. If players can find a way to set up Electric Terrain for Regieleki, too, it could be the strongest and fastest Pokémon on the field in almost any Pokémon Sword and Shield battle.
