A type known for its versatility, the Colorless-type is compatible with almost any deck that it is put into. A major reason for this is the fact that almost all cards require colorless-energy as an energy accelerant, and, therefore, having a Colorless-type pokémon in the deck always seems to be complementary and useful to players.
Furthermore, these types of cards have a diverse range of pokémon that find great use in myriad types of decks and can suit the player’s needs in many interesting manners. They are also complemented by the presence of strong Special Energy cards like the Double Colorless Energy, a card that has found a place in almost every generation of the game’s history. Being a universal energy card, the DCE is extremely helpful in setting up energy requirements quickly and helps the player to save turns and launch attacks much faster.
10 Ditto
Ditto from the Promo expansion might not seem very powerful, except for its unique ability Metamorphosis Gene. This basic pokémon’s ability allows Ditto to replicate and use the same attacks that the opponent’s Active Pokémon has, thereby making it especially useful when decked against powerful pokémon belonging to the opponent. However, the necessary energy cost for each attack needs to be fulfilled.
9 Porygon-Z
Porygon-Z from the Ancient Origins expansion might seem like a weakling at first glance, but its unique yet strange abilities make it a powerhouse. Dubbed at 130 HP, this stage two pokémon comes equipped with one colorless energy-costing attack named Digital Reboot.
Owing to the fact that certain cards like Lycanroc GX and Alakazam EX, amongst others, have certain abilities that can only be activated when the card is evolved, having Digital Reboot as an option is a great way to use these abilities repeatedly through the game. It also comes equipped with Theta Stop, an Ancient Trait that allows Porygon-Z to remain immune to the abilities that the opponent’s pokémon has.
8 Oranguru
Oranguru is a card belonging to the Sun & Moon expansion that comes equipped with an ability Instruct, which allows the player to replenish his/her hand by playing this card and draw up to three cards from the deck.
It also has an attack Psychic, which can deal a base damage of 60, which can further increase by 20 times the number of energy cards that are attached with the Active Pokémon of the opponent, making its maximum damage potential close to 120, which is brilliant for a two-hit-knock-out scenario. It also has a solid 120 HP, its only weakness is the Fighting-type, and it also forfeits one Prize Card if knocked out since it is a basic pokémon.
7 Shaymin EX
Shaymin EX from Sky Return is arguably the very essence of what PTCG stands for in the sense that it allows the player to burn through their decks and achieve crucial setups to launch the most devastating attacks and win the game. The ability Set Up allows players to draw as many as six new cards onto their hand when the pokémon is shifted from the hand to the bench. This allows players to access the exact cards in their decks they need to thwart their opponent, without having to shuffle the deck.
It also has a 1DCE, 30 damage attack in Sky Return, which also returns Shaymin EX, and any other card attached to it to the player’s hand, allowing them to use Shaymin EX all over again in the next turn. Although it is weak to powerful Trainer-cards like Lysandre and has a weakness to the Electric archetype, Shaymin EX is one of the most used cards in the entirety of PTCG, making it both loved and dreaded by players of the game.
6 Lugia EX
Lugia EX is a basic pokémon from Ancient Origins that boasts a 170 HP portfolio while also having two powerful attacks up its sleeve. The first one Aero Ball requires 1DCE and deals damage of 20 multiplied by the total number of energy cards attached to the player’s and the opponent’s Active Pokémon.
The second one, Deep Hurricane, requires 2DCE and is able to deal a base damage of 80, which increases by 70 more if any Stadium-card has been put into play. The Stadium-card gets discarded after the turn ends. Furthermore, it is the perfect move to execute if the player is planning to use Aero Ball after having used Deep Hurricane. Being a universal attacker, Lugia EX is perfect for various decks that require versatile cards to break the opponent’s defenses.
5 Mega Pidgeot EX
Pidgeot is one of the most loved pokémon in the Pokémon franchise, having been made into myriad beautiful toys and gifts for fans. Mega Pidgeot EX belonging to the Evolutions expansion, therefore, does justice to this beloved pocket monster. It comes equipped with a handful of 220 HP and has a powerful attack in Mach Cyclone.
For the cost of three colorless, it is capable of dealing 130 damage to the defending pokémon and also forces the opponent to switch the same with one of his/her Benched pokémon. It is the perfect card to use as a substitute to the Lysandre Trainer-card. Its two Prize Card cost if knocked out and a weakness to powerful Electric-types are its only downside.
4 Mega Rayquaza EX
Mega Ryaquaza EX from Roaring Skies is a card that is a delight for PTCG players owing to its ability to deal exemplary damage, as well as its relatively fast setup speed. These traits have endeared it hugely with players, thereby providing it a position in many brilliant decks.
The Colorless-type Mega Ryaquaza EX comes equipped with Delta Evolution, an Ancient Trait that allows it to evolve in the very turn that it has been played. It also comes equipped with 210 HP, thereby allowing Gumshoos GX to utilize this ability for quite some time during the game.
Its GX-attack Gumshoe Chance GX is also perfect for dealing hefty damage to snowballing pokémon, which accumulate considerable energy cards on them, all for the cost of a single colorless-energy.
2 Drampa GX
Drampa GX from Hidden Fates is simply outstanding owing to its solid 180 HP, which can be further boosted to 220 if used alongside Fighting Fury Belt. It also has crazy attacks in Righteous Edge, Berserk, and Big Wheel GX. Righteous Edge is perfect during the early-game, disrupting the opponent’s play by discarding Special Energy cards attached to their Active Pokémon.
Berserk can potentially deal damage of 150 after any of the player’s Benched Pokémon has been dealt with a damage counter. Finally, Big Wheel GX is a GX attack that is a huge hand rejuvenator that allows the player to shuffle his/her hand into the deck and draw as many as 10 cards, thereby allowing him/her to potentially access the exact cards he/she needs to implement his/her intended gameplay.
1 Tauros GX
Tauros GX from Sun & Moon is the card in PTCG that gives meaning to the saying that an animal is most dangerous when wounded. This powerhouse of a card is capable of dealing hefty damage without requiring much energy and is also uniquely versatile, thereby being compatible with most decks. A basic pokémon, Tauros GX is equipped with 180 HP, which makes it quite formidable.
Furthermore, its attacks Rage and Mad Bull GX are incredible damage multipliers, especially once Tauros GX has been hit with considerable damage counters. All its attacks require 1DCE, including Horn Attack, thereby deterring opponents from damaging and angering this raging bull.
