Popular Twitch Streamer Dr Disrespect Banned From Platform

It has been reported that the streaming service Twitch has decided to ban popular streamer Dr Disrespect for as of yet unknown reasons.

As the gaming community faces reports of misconduct, Twitch announced that it has banned popular gaming streamer Dr Disrespect from the platform for unknown reasons.

eSports journalist Rod Breslau reported that Guy Beahm (aka Dr Disrespect) has been banned for an unspecified amount of time from the streaming service. He clarified that the ban is unrelated to takedowns over copyrighted music associated with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

This is not the first time the popular gaming influencer has been banned from Twitch. In June 2019, his account was suspended for two weeks after walking into a men’s restroom while live-streaming at E3.

It is worth mentioning that Twitch and other gaming and esports outlets have faced more than 200 allegations in relation to sexual abuse and harassment, hate speech and other inappropriate conduct in recent weeks. This led to the company’s CEO Emmett Shear stating he would take action against those facing such allegations.

When it came to addressing the allegations, a Twitch spokesperson told the sports publication, “As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our community guidelines or terms of service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”

Before his alleged permanent ban, Dr Disrespect, best known for his over-the-top personality, black mullet wig and trademark sunglasses, had become one of Twitch’s most popular streamers after the exits of Ninja and Shroud. Beahm had recently inked a multi-year, multi-million streaming deal with Twitch in March as well as a television deal with Skybound Entertainment in December 2019.
