As if to prove to everyone that Powerpuff (the CW’s upcoming live-action continuation of The Powerpuff Girls) isn’t just a fever dream, the universe has provided photographic evidence of its existence. Brand new behind-the-scenes images show the series leads in full costume all set to kick some major butt, Townsville style.

The pictures (and short video) show Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault in their respective roles Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup all suited up and ready for action. The costumes themselves seem a bit low budget compared to what people might expect from a CW show, but the actresses themselves appear to be all in, and their energy has captured the hearts of Twitter users all over. Whether it be Cameron’s sassy pose in one picture or the shot of Bennet taking flight, fans already have plenty to say.

That’s not to mention the picture of Donald Faison on the set giving an extremely Donald Faison wave to the cameras. With the knowledge that he’ll be playing Professor Utonium on Powerpuff, It’s unclear whether his outfit seen here is his actual costume or just what he showed up in that day. Both theories are equally plausible. Faison’s contagiously happy expression aside, perhaps the most striking element of the shot is how he doesn’t appear to have aged a single day since his time on Scrubs.

Powerpuff is set long after the original Cartoon Network series and will depict the 3 now grown-up superheroes as rather weary and cynical adults in their 20s, resentful of the childhood they lost thanks to their crime fighting lives. Faison’s Professor Utonium attempts to bring them back into the hero business while he struggles with his own mid-life crisis, all of which seems to be a recipe for the kind of drama The CW thrives on. Also, Nicholas Podany plays the son of Mojo Jojo, one of the team’s original villains, though his full role is currently unknown.

Fans of the original Powerpuff Girls series might want to steel themselves for this one. The CW is known for going in particularly hard on the drama elements in its shows, as evidenced by series like The Flash and the surprisingly heavy Riverdale, which somehow turns the wholesome and friendly Archie comics into angsty teen action. So, even with all the excitement surrounding this new pilot, long time viewers would do well to keep in mind just what kind of show they can expect.

Still, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth looking forward to. Even with all its drama, The CW does manage to keep a consistent sense of humor with its shows, particularly in the ones produced by Berlanti Productions. So for those looking for something serious while cracking a smile now and then, maybe keep an eye on Powerpuff. For everyone else, hey, keep an eye on it anyway. There’s always room for a nice surprise. Don’t forget that Black Lightning, considered by many to be the best show in The CW’s “Arrowverse,” is one of the more serious offerings too.
