Project Runway first aired in 2004. Over the last 16 years of the show, there have been countless meltdowns, tears, arguments and hilarious scenes as well as some iconic fashion moments. Gary ‘Garo Sparo’ Spampinato placed third in the 2019 contest and it seems that his accomplishments certainly didn’t stop in the Project Runway cutting room.

Garo Sparo was already a pretty bigtime designer while partaking in Project Runway series 17. The series was hosted by Christian Siriano and Karlie Kloss. He mentioned in episode 9 that he had made clothing for Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, and Madonna.

And a year on from the show, Garo is still designing for mega-famous stars Lady Gaga and Doja Cat. After some time away from topping the charts, Lady Gaga catapulted back into our lives with a musical collaboration with Ariana Grande “Rain on Me.” The music video for the song features both Gaga and Ari looking super futuristic and more importantly – corseted. Garo took to Instagram to make mention of his involvement in Lady Gaga’s costume: “Was so blessed to have the opportunity to work with @marta.del.rio and @nicolaformichetti to create this custom corseted look for @ladygaga!”

Finishing in third place on Project Runway series 17 behind Hester Sunshine and Sebastian Grey, Garo Sparo looks to be the only finalist to be collaborating on fashion statements that are so mainstream. It was mentioned on the show that Garo had two kids, but it looks like as well as having a family, he’s hitting milestones in the world of fashion like there’s no tomorrow.

Garo was a part of the team that created Lizzo’s custom look to grace the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine in January 2020. He’s also the man responsible for some of Doja Cat’s most eyecatching looks including a diamante bodysuit, the beautiful butterfly bodysuit from her music video for “Say So” as well as a fluffy corset romper with cat ears which also featured in the same video, check out the adorable look in the post below:
