Quantumania: 10 Ways Ant-Man 3 Could Drastically Change The MCU

The previous Ant-Man movies haven’t had a huge influence on the wider MCU, but that could all change with Scott Lang’s third adventure, Quantumania.

One of the exciting new MCU titles announced recently is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third entry in the Ant-Man solo series that will introduce Kathryn Newton as the new Cassie Lang, who will presumably take on the mantle of “Stature” in the threequel, and Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic supervillains.

Although the Ant-Man movies have previously been the smallest, lightest installments in the MCU, with little impact on the wider universe, Quantumania’s exploration of the Quantum Realm and introduction of time-traveling baddie Kang hints that this will be a much more significant Ant-Man film.

10 Kang Could Be The MCU’s Next Big Bad

The casting of Kang the Conqueror is very tantalizing. In the comics, Kang is one of the most fearsome and powerful supervillains of all time. He could even be the MCU’s next Thanos-sized big bad if Quantumania plays its cards right.

If Kang is just a one-off villain who’s introduced and defeated in Ant-Man 3 alone, it’ll be pretty disappointing. That would be like putting Doctor Doom or Galactus in just one movie.

9 Explore The Quantum Realm

After the first Ant-Man movie briefly touched on the Quantum Realm and the second one briefly touched on it in a little more depth, the third one should dive headfirst into this curious dimension and explore its most mind-boggling corners.

The title Quantumania would suggest that the Quantum Realm will play into the story heavily, and the realm might’ve been radically changed following Endgame’s effect on the spacetime continuum.

8 Introduce The Fantastic Four

It’s unclear which incarnation of Kang the Conqueror will be the villain in Quantumania, but the most common version of the character is Nathaniel Richards, an evil relative of Reed Richards.

After Marvel fans were disappointed that Reed wasn’t the “aerospace engineer” teased in WandaVision, his connection to Kang could lead to his introduction in Quantumania instead.

7 The Return Of Janet Van Dyne’s Wasp

The second Ant-Man movie saw the return of Janet Van Dyne, Hank Pym’s estranged wife played by Michelle Pfeiffer, who’d been trapped in the Quantum Realm for decades.

Now that she’s back in the real world, she might want to return to her superhero alter ego as the Wasp. It would be cool to see two Wasps in action after the MCU took so long to introduce just one of them.

6 Working With S.W.O.R.D.

Initially teased with Nick Fury hanging out in space with a bunch of Skrulls, S.W.O.R.D. is now officially a part of the MCU. Monica Rambeau is confirmed to be working with them on something that will surely be resolved in the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.

The combined brainpower of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne could be very useful for S.W.O.R.D., so they might work with the organization in Ant-Man 3 as Phase Four continues to flesh it out.

5 Scott & Hope Could Get Married

After the first Ant-Man movie teased a romance between Scott and Hope, the events of Civil War kept them apart. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, after Scott earned Hope’s forgiveness for not inviting her to fight in Berlin, they finally got together. In the third movie, they might get married.

While Scott and Hope’s wedding wouldn’t have many implications for the larger MCU, they’d join a pretty prestigious club of married Avengers — alongside Tony Stark and Steve Rogers — and the ceremony could feature a handful of high-profile cameos in attendance.

4 Form The West Coast Avengers

Now that the official Avengers team has disbanded while the superhero roster continues to grow, some Marvel fans are expecting the heroes to split up into various different Avengers teams, like the Young Avengers and the Dark Avengers and maybe even another Secret Avengers line-up for the ones who are off the grid.

Since Ant-Man and the Wasp are based in San Francisco, it seems likely that they’ll set up the MCU’s version of the West Coast Avengers in Quantumania.

3 Set Up A Wasp Solo Movie

While Ant-Man and the Wasp and Quantumania itself are more like team-up movies, Hope Van Dyne still deserves her own standalone adventure.

She’s more interesting than Ant-Man — she has the exact same suit, but with a pair of wings — and she’s one of the most crucial Avengers in the comics.

2 Hank Pym Might Be The Next Major MCU Death

It’s a tradition for MCU heroes to have to watch their mentors die. Yinsen died during Tony Stark’s cave escape; Dr. Erskine died during Steve Rogers’ initial transformation; the Ancient One died at a predetermined time and had one last out-of-body experience with Stephen Strange before passing on.

But Hank Pym has stuck around for a while, and he’s two kinds of MCU characters whose days are numbered: a mentor to one hero and a redeemed estranged father to another. He might be the MCU’s next big character death.

1 Cassie Lang Could Lead The Young Avengers

When Scott Lang returned home after the five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame and found that his daughter Cassie had grown into a teenager, she was played by Emma Fuhrmann. However, for Quantumania, Fuhrmann has been replaced by Detective Pikachu’s Kathryn Newton, suggesting Marvel wanted a more bankable name for a potential franchise.

In the comics, Cassie joins the Young Avengers with the superhero mantle “Stature.” In the MCU, if she’s the first young superhero to be introduced (besides Spidey, obviously), then she could actually lead the team herself.
