RHOBH What We Know About Alum Kim Richards Tax Problems

Kim Richards is a The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum who reportedly owes tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid tax money to the state of Califonia, and we’re about to share more details about the celeb’s tax issues. The second-oldest Richards sister appeared on the Bravo series from seasons one to seven. After that, Kim was featured on the series a few times as a guest or even a “friend of.” Even though Kim tried to avoid confrontations sometimes, she did feud with several of her castmates, including Brandi Glanville, her own sister Kyle Richards, and (of course) Lisa Rinna.

When Kim decided to become a housewife in 2010, she opened up her life to an audience. During her seven-plus years on the show, Kim, who has appeared on the show with Lisa Vanderpump, has been open and honest about the struggles in her life. The former actress admitted to being an alcoholic and to shoplifting. She even talked about the pain she went through while taking care of her ex-husband Monty after he was diagnosed with cancer. While Kim has been through a lot (she was even accused of hooking up with Brandi), she has always managed to make it to the other side.

According to The Sun, the 56-year-old has run into several legal and financial issues following her arrest. In 2015, Kim was arrested for shoplifting at Target and attacking a police officer at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Kim reportedly got reusable bags and began grabbing anything she could find in Target’s dollar section. Some of the items she took included art supplies, makeup, and children’s toys. The total value of the stolen items was approximately $600. At the Beverly Hills Hotel, Kim was trespassing and intoxicated, which resulted in her resisting arrest and hitting an officer. Even though it has been more than six years since her arrest, Kim is still running into financial troubles with the State of California’s Franchise Tax Board. In 2020, she had a tax lien of $20,762, which is still unpaid as of this writing.

Besides that, Kim, who is writing a tell-all book, also has an outstanding tax lien of over $70,000 from 2019. Overall, Kim owes a total of more than $90,000 in unpaid taxes. Interest fees will follow on both tax liens as long as they go unpaid. When the publication tried to reach out to Kim and her representatives, they did not immediately respond back.

The former reality star has been living a modest life since she left the series full-time. She is currently living in a modest two-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment, which is notably smaller than the home she was living in while appearing on RHOBH. The apartment is located in Encino, a suburb of Los Angeles, where her younger sister Kyle lives as well.

Even though The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum is doing much better in terms of her sobriety, Kim is in trouble with the law. If she doesn’t pay off her unpaid taxes soon, the interest will keep rising. Hopefully, Kim, whose kids have worried about her in the past, is able to find the money to settle her debts. She is a survivor, so she may do just that.
