While the game leaves much about Dragaux untouched and ambiguous, there are a number of interesting details tied to this distinct gaming villain.

10 The Dark Influence

As many Ring Fit Adventure players have likely gathered, the source of Dragaux’s immense power extends beyond his frequent bouts of weight-lifting and exercise. In fact, he draws upon a parasitical aura known as “The Dark Influence.”

Like a sort of viral, Nintendo-fied version of Star Wars’ Dark Side of the Force, this power creeps into the weaknesses of the hearts of its hosts and consumes them. This manifests as a sort of purple aura of flame which engulfs animals, people, and even entire areas. As Dragaux continues to work out, he’s not only buffing himself, but also this aura of darkness.

9 His Shadowy Origins

Fittingly, the dark, villainous dragon was born and raised in a country engulfed by darkness, known as the Land of Night. Little is known about this mysterious land, other than it’s a strange country where the sun never rises.

It was in this area where he would cross paths with Ring and train with him, soon building the Dragaux Stadiums under the premise that everyone should be able to exercise. But his corruption spurred Ring to seal him away to prevent the world from succumbing to his dark influence. The player eventually unleashes this threat by freeing him — and the rest is history.

The sky seems to be the limit when it comes to the powers and enhancements of this Dark Influence. Not only is this beast massive in size, but he can also apparently tap into the mind of others in certain ways; learning their weaknesses, desires, and fears. He also possesses a sort of all-seeing eye akin to the famed Lord of the Rings character Sauron, communicating with the player or Ring and watching over them regardless of where they reside.

In terms of attacks and abilities, he’s both massively powerful and acrobatic, as he demonstrates in boss fights throughout the epic campaign. He’s able to breathe and manipulate fire, summon monsters, and spit purple fireballs.

Curiously, he can approximate an impression of Apex Legend’s Wraith by creating portals and Overwatch’s Tracer by using dimensional Travel; sending monsters to the Land of Hades.

7 A Secret Relationship With One Of The Four Masters

Dragaux has a relationship with one of the Four Masters — the prominent fitness gurus in the game — that extends beyond his corruption of them.

In fact, Dragaux has a secret crush on Allegra, the character oriented with Leg Fit Skills, and they apparently even have a secret relationship while she’s corrupted. It would seem that the tough, ominous dragon has a soft spot after all.

While Dragaux is known for his obsessive desire to get pumped and exercise, he also holds a seemingly contradictory passion — snoozing.

As it happens, this is reportedly his favorite “hobby” aside from working out, as Ring tells the player. It makes sense on a certain level, as all that exercise would inevitably make any living thing tired; even a hulking beast like Dragaux.

Bring some smoothies to boost defense, skills, extra turns, and especially attack power. These fights can be wars of attrition — especially the final battle — so it’s a good idea to be prepared on multiple fronts.

1 His One Other Appearance Exists As A Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit

Many Nintendo characters tend to be featured in various games, or at least have a few crossover appearances. Not so with Dragaux, who resides only in his debut game of Ring Fit Adventure for the time being.

Still, he’s as least partially featured in the similarly popular Switch game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. But instead of being a fighter, his likeness exists as an Ace-level Shield Spirit to augment the player. He first arrived on the scene during the spirit event “Spirits Fit for a Fight,” which was held in March 2020.

The battle pits players against a mega-sized version of Incineroar in a stamina match. Though it’s a far cry from the real thing, the dark, massive Incineroar does tend to resemble his beastly brethren. He can also be tough, so it’s a good idea to come prepared with a potent fighter.
