A release date has finally been set down for Harmonix’s next music-making game, Fuser, a rhythm-based DJ game brought to players by the developers of Rock Band and the nostalgia-inducing Guitar Hero. Fans will be seeing the new game on PC and consoles in November, just in time for that holiday music festival feeling.

Fuser, published by NCSoft, gives players the experience of being a DJ in front of a huge audience. With neon lights and an arena full of adoring fans, the game looks to recreate the thrill of being a DJ. Of course, that is until the fictional masses start losing their interest when players keep the same song running for too long. It is easy to get into the flow of mixing some great tunes, and even some not so great ones that the game will do its best to smooth out for the creator.

Some skill is required to keep the audience happy, namely, by dropping beats and mixes in time with the on-screen tempo meter, as well as taking requests. Players can also challenge themselves with more advanced game mechanics like key changes. This game is more like a creative tool than anything else, as it allows players to put together samples from over 100 different songs that span across several genres from rock to hip-hop to dance. Imagine being able to slap Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy drumming track to Smash Mouth’s All Star melody, and have it blend seamlessly in Fuser. At long last, the Fuser Game Twitter account posted the announcement of a release date for the game, confirming that it will launch for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on November 10th.

Similar to its other hits, Harmonix has created a game that puts players into the shoes of a great musician, no matter the skill of the person behind the controls. Speaking of controls, unlike the guitar-shaped controller that must be navigated when playing Guitar Hero or the various plastic instruments from Rock Band, Fuser can be played with a traditional controller which is much simpler and cheaper. A new take on game accessories for the developer, especially after Dance Central which required an Xbox Kinect in earlier games and has now upgraded to the Oculus Rift.

Fuser sounds like the logical next step for Harmonix, as the developer embraces the changing music scene and appeals to younger players who would love to get up on stage and spin those decks. The game won’t turn players into a DJ overnight but it does provide insight into the difficulties of making those mixes up on a real stage. There’s a multiplayer mode too, so players can share their music with their friends, and use them as a sounding board for their creations.
