Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race defined in many ways the format for the entire franchise for years to come. 12 PANDORA BOXX
Many fans believe that Pandora Boxx was done wrong on season 2 of Drag Race, and things got even worse after the queen was eliminated on the first episode of All Stars 1 (due to no fault of her own). Nonetheless, the season 2 Miss Congeniality has been just fine after her two times competing in the series.
Over the years, Pandora Boxx has been starring in various TV shows and movies, as well as releasing original music. In 2020, the queen made a guest appearance on RuPaul’s new scripted series on Netflix, AJ and the Queen. On Instagram, Pandora Boxx has also teased that she plans on releasing new music very soon.
11 RAVEN
Raven’s makeup techniques influenced an entire generation of drag queens after she became the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 2 runner-up. As the years have gone by, Raven stayed close to the franchise and its production company, World of Wonder. Consequently, the queen went on to compete on All Stars 1, star in RuPaul’s Drag U, and even get her own web series (alongside season 3 winner Raja), Fashion Photo RuView.
Since season 9 of Drag Race, Raven has been the official makeup artist for RuPaul. That includes every single televised appearance from RuPaul, such as the recent All Stars seasons, the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK edition, and even Netflix’s AJ and the Queen. In the U.K. edition of Drag Race, which aired in 2019 on the BBC, Raven also made a cameo in full drag.
10 SONIQUE
Since her appearance on Drag Race season 2, Sonique has been working nonstop as a drag performer and has also gone on to become a major trans icon in the LGBTQ+ community.
In 2018, Sonique was featured in the RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular special, which prompted rumors that she would be featured on an All Stars season very soon. Nonetheless, this show-stopping dancing diva never stopped working and was even featured on Lizzo’s “Juice” music video in 2019.
9 TATIANNA
When it comes to Tatianna’s career, the queen has certainly made the right ‘choices.’ After competing on Drag Race season 2 and All Stars 2, Tati has released fragrances, starred in web series, and made huge waves in the music industry as well.
In 2018, Tatianna was brought on stage by Charli XCX for a live performance of the popstar’s “1999” single. Then, in 2019, Tatianna was featured on Taylor Swift’s music video for “You Need To Calm Down.” In it, Tati impersonated Ariana Grande, which had been her Snatch Game character choice for All Stars 2.
8 MYSTIQUE SUMMERS MADISON
You may remember Mystique Summers Madison as the queen who made it very clear that she was from Chicago. However, in reality, Mystique has been a Texas queen ever since she was first featured on Drag Race season 2.
Besides her usual gigs as a drag queen, Mystique Summers Madison has recently invested in her social media presence as a beauty expert on Instagram, often recommending products that she uses and likes. Nonetheless, this queen is confirmed to appear on the next RuPaul’s DragCon event in Los Angeles, which will take place in May 2020.
7 SHANGELA
Shangela may have entered the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 2 workroom as just an inexperienced ‘baby queen.’ In hindsight, however, Shangie changed this franchise for years to come. Deservedly so, Shangela came back to compete on Drag Race two more times: on season 3 and on All Stars 3. There are always dozens of achievements and projects going on in Shangela’s career, but here are the highlights.
First and foremost, the queen had a major role in the Bradley Cooper-directed A Star Is Born remake featuring Lady Gaga in 2018, which prompted Shangela to be the first-ever drag queen to walk on the Oscar red carpet. Moreover, Shangie’s voice was used on the Ariana Grande song “NASA” off of the Thank U, Next album. 2020 has barely started, but Shangela has already starred in the official Super Saturday Night commercial announcing the pre-Super Bowl performance of Lady Gaga.
6 JESSICA WILD
Since season 2, Jessica Wild has worked full-time as a drag queen who tours around the world. A quick peek on her Instagram page shows the queen promoting gigs in Mexico and in the U.S., as well as a five-city tour in Brazil alongside Ongina, Mayhem Miller, and Morgan McMichaels.
This Puerto Rican queen has been very supportive of her island during the recent natural tragedies that have taken place there. What’s more, in 2019, Jessica Wild joined singer Gloria Trevi on stage during a few dates of her Diosa De La Noche Tour.
5 TYRA SANCHEZ
In 2010, Tyra Sanchez was crowned the winner of Drag Race season 2. Over the last ten years, Tyra has been on a rocky journey when it comes to the queen’s relationship with RuPaul and overall disappearance from the franchise.
Nonetheless, Tyra Sanchez ended 2019 issuing a public apology to her fans, explaining what has been going on since her time on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Hopefully, 2020 will be all about Tyra’s comeback and the franchise can once again include its season 2 winner on future appearances.
4 NICOLE PAIGE BROOKS
She may have been the second contestant to be eliminated on Drag Race season 2, but Nicole Paige Brooks is still very much a full-time drag performer who is booked for gigs all over the country.
Despite still identifying as a Georgia queen, Nicole Paige Brooks is often seen performing in West Hollywood, California. This drag performer still has very strong bonds with contestants from the earlier Drag Race seasons, and has found a way to network with newer queens as well. On Instagram, one doesn’t have to scroll too far to see Nicole alongside Raven, Valentina, and Morgan McMichaels, to name a few.
3 JUJUBEE
Jujubee introduced the concept of Lip Sync Assassin during her time on season 2. Then, during All Stars 1, Jujubee secured her status as an undefeated lip sync queen. As of late, rumor has it that we’ll see this queen very soon during an All Stars season.
If the All Stars rumors are indeed true, Jujubee will have a long 2020 ahead of her. In any case, the queen has already kicked off the year appearing on the first-ever RuPaul’s DragCon U.K. and having a major storyline on AJ and the Queen alongside Trinity The Tuck.
2 SAHARA DAVENPORT
Unfortunately, the ultimate Drag Race season 2 dancer, Sahara Davenport, passed away two years after the season aired on television. The then-27-year-old queen resided in New York City with her boyfriend, who goes by the stage name of Manila Luzon and competed on season 3 of Drag Race.
Sahara Davenport is the only former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant to have passed away. This drag performer’s body rests in Silver Spring, Maryland.
1 MORGAN MCMICHAELS
Drag Race fans saw Morgan McMichaels back on the franchise during All Stars 3. However, the queen has been booked and busy off of the show as well, working most nights of the week around the club circuit in California.
In 2019, Morgan McMichaels appeared on the music video for Lizzo’s “Juice” along with her season 2 sister Sonique. Then, she was a backup dancer for Nico Tortorella’s appearance on Lip Sync Battle.
