Warning! SPOILERS for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 3 episode 9 below!

On RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 3 episode 9, Mama Ru finally made a choice between Ella Vaday, Kitty Scott-Claus, Krystal Versace, and Vanity Milan and narrowed down the competition to a top three. Last week, RuPaul didn’t eliminate anyone on Drag Race UK, instead choosing a top two between Ella and Kitty. In the end, both queens won the lip sync and earned another RuPeter badge for themselves, which meant that Ella was now leading the competition.

Episode 9 started out with the queens discussing their track records on the show. Ella had three RuPeter badges, Kitty had two, Krystal had two, and Vanity had one (from the girl group challenge). Krystal was the apparent frontrunner all season long, but Ella has now overtaken her spot. Kitty also started episode 9 with a lot of momentum. After all, she won the last two maxi challenges on Drag Race UK season 3.

This week, the queens were challenged to write some jokes and perform stand-up comedy in the Pearly Gates Roast. The episode’s special guests were all of the eliminated queens from season 3, so this top four had free rein to roast their current and former co-stars, as well as the judges. As the contestant with the most RuPeter badges, Ella Vaday was asked to pick the lineup for this challenge. She put Vanity Milan to go first, herself to go second, Krystal Versace to go third, and Kitty Scott-Claus to close out the show. Krystal came out dressed like a beautiful angel, but her jokes were just not good. She tried to rely on the fact that she’s so young, but the jokes really just weren’t funny at all.

Ella Vaday’s strategy on Drag Race UK clearly worked, because her already funny jokes sounded even better after being followed by Krystal’s on-stage bombing. She went in on the other queens and also made enough jokes about herself to make everyone feel comfortable. Overall, it was made very clear that Ella was much, much, much better than Krystal on this challenge. Then along came Vanity Milan, and once again, Ella’s strategy worked. Vanity did a little better than Krystal, but her jokes just weren’t funny either. The judges and the other queens tried to help her out with some polite laughing and clapping, but Vanity’s material simply did not land. In the end, Kitty Scott-Claus went on stage to close out this roast. As predicted by Ella, Vanity’s bad performance opened the door for Kitty to come in and steal the show. And steal the show she did! Kitty’s set was as good as Ella’s, but it seemed like Ella’s jokes got more laughs out of the judging panel.

In the critiques, RuPaul declared Ella as the winner, giving out her fourth RuPeter badge. Ella is now not only in the lead, but she has two times more badges than Kitty and Krystal (who have two badges each). Krystal and Vanity were told to lip sync for their lives to “Hallucinate” by Dua Lipa. This was Krystal’s very first time in the bottom two on Drag Race UK, and Vanity’s fourth time. Vanity killed it at this lip sync, but Krystal’s solid performance and overall track record got her to stay. As expected, RuPaul asked Vanity to sashay away. The top three of the season consists of Ella, Kitty, and Krystal. This was not the top three that fans might’ve expected when this season started, but one of these queens will be crowned the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar.
