Deadpool and Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds is just as excited about the return of the McDonald’s McRib as the rest of us. Well… maybe he’s just a little more excited than the rest of us.
To celebrate the McRib’s return, Reynolds shared his recipe for the Aviation Gin Riblet, a play on the gin gimlet that puts a savory spin on the classic cocktail. The recipe calls for 4 ounces of tomato juice, 1/2 ounce of barbecue sauce, 1.5 ounces of Aviation American gin and a squeeze of lemon. To assemble the cocktail, one simply adds the ingredients into a shaker full of ice, shakes until thoroughly mixed and strains the strange concoction into a glass, garnishing with a pickle and a pearl onion.
For the uninitiated, the McRib is a timed McDonald’s menu item consisting of a barbecue pork patty shaped like ribs sandwiched between two buns with pickles and onions. The McRib debuted in 1981 and was a mainstay on the menu for several years before being pulled. It made its return in 1989, but since 2006, the McRib has been largely a seasonal item that tends to show up in the fall.
As for Aviation American Gin, the company was founded in 2006 by Christian Krogstad and Ryan Magarian, but it took off considerably in 2018 when Reynolds acquired a majority stake and began plugging it in his films and on his YouTube channel. Though Aviation was sold to Diageo in 2020, Reynolds remains involved in the company.
