Developer Volition has shared new Saints Row reboot gameplay footage, providing a more complete look at the game’s open-world Santo Ileso location. The upcoming reboot was first revealed during Gamescom 2021, but the reaction to the cinematic and gameplay trailers shown so far has been mixed at best. The studio even had to address concerns about Saints Row following a significant amount of backlash after the game’s debut.

Although the game has not launched yet, Volition already has plans to release at least three Saints Row DLC expansions. At least, that’s according to a listing on the Epic Games Store, which mentions a Gold Edition that will include access to the three DLC expansions. This bundle will cost $90, although few details have been provided about what the additional content will entail and when they will become available.

A new Game Informer gameplay preview of the Saints Row reboot tours the open world of Santo Ileso. The game’s setting is located in the US’s Southwest and will be where the majority of the action in the new game takes place. While there’s not much in the way of combat or driving in the new gameplay footage, it does provide a detailed look at the city and what some of its distinct areas look like up-close. Perhaps the most encouraging thing that can be gleaned from the video is how many unique locations Saints Row’s reboot packs in, with several different commercial and housing districts and the surrounding desert seeming to give Santo Ileso a decent variety of places to explore. Developer Volition cautions that the trailer was created using pre-alpha footage and was not captured in 4K resolution, so the final game won’t necessarily match what’s being shown.

A previous trailer for Saints Row introduced viewers to the rival gangs that call Santo Ileso home. There will be three main groups in the new title, each fighting to become the dominant force, including the international corporation known as Marshall, the brutish Pabteros, and the Idols – a group which visually stands out due to their bright clothing. This Saints Row developer diary trailer also focused on some of the main characters, such as investor Eli, getaway driver Nina, and celebrity chef Kevin.

Considering the amount of criticism that Volition has received since announcing Saints Row, it only makes sense for the developer to put its head down and let the gameplay speak for itself. This latest video shows off the rather impressive-looking city and characters, all of which look closer to the original vision of the series than the first cinematic trailer was perceived to be. That could go some way to restoring the Saints Row reboot’s reputation ahead of its 2022 release.
