The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro will arrive with a number of new features, including Voice detect and 3D audio, according to information recently revealed in a new Samsung app listing. These improvements and sound optimizations suggest the differences between Samsung’s latest earbuds and Apple’s AirPods Pro are becoming fewer.
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Live came with a handful of noteworthy improvements over the previous model, including better hardware and audio enhancements that translated to a more convenient user experience. With dynamic audio, longer battery life, and noise cancellation, Galaxy Buds Live held their own against Apple’s buds, although one of the main differences was the inclusion of spatial audio. This alone resulted in an advantage over Samsung’s premier earphones, thanks to the ability to deliver a more immersive sound.
Now it seems like Samsung finally has an answer to that, as a recent app leak reveals a new “3D audio” feature. The Galaxy Wearable app describes it as hearing “vivid” sound “from all directions,” which pretty closely echoes Apple’s spatial audio feature. Spotted by 9To5Google, this feature does come with a caveat, it can only be enabled on Samsung phones running on Android 11. Aside from the 3D audio, there’s also a new Voice detect feature, which automatically lowers media sound volume, while amplifying external sound whenever the wearer is in conversation. Other changes include more intuitive noise controls, where users can easily manage the amount of external noise, and hearing enhancements, including the option to adjust sound balance.
Can Samsung’s Pro Compete With Apple’s
The Galaxy Wearable app description alone suggests some much-needed improvements are coming. However, the app only shows what the Galaxy Buds Pro are capable of, not how well the earbuds will perform. While both Samsung and Apple’s Pro earphones now have their own immersive audio features, there isn’t much content currently available that takes advantage of the sound advancements.
On top of all that, there’s still a lot of questions left unanswered on how well Samsung’s latest offering will fare against AirPods Pro in the hardware department. For example, it still remains unknown whether the Galaxy Buds Pro will feature a longer-lasting battery, any ingress protection rating, or other unique features not shown in the app. Not to mention, whether it can compete with Apple’s flagship earphones on sound quality. Regardless, it’s very likely that Samsung’s upcoming earphones will do better job against the AirPods Pro than the Galaxy Buds Live.
