Though he was not introduced to the show until the third season, Patrick quickly became a very important character on Schitt’s Creek. He started out as a business partner to David Rose at the general store but that eventually grew into a charming romance that was very much at the center of the show.

Patrick provided a grounded sense of calm in David’s often dramatic life and he would regularly provide some very valuable advice for David and for others. Of course, Patrick also wasn’t perfect and sometimes his advice was not as helpful as he hoped it would be.

10 Best: Throwing A Baby Shower

David is not often known for being generous towards others, but when Jocelyn is desperate for help, he agrees to organize her baby shower. Patrick acknowledges that it is a kind gesture but quickly sees that David is totally in over his head.

Patrick first points out that David is spending too much on the party and that the one who is having the baby is not expected to pay for anything. He also points out that wine and fish are not appropriate to serve a pregnant woman and has to remind David the party is for Jocelyn and not David himself.

9 Worst: David’s Spending

When David begins preparing his store for its opening, Patrick stops by to drop off his business license and see how things are going. When he sees David has already filled the store with a lot of products, he warns him that he is spending too much upfront.

Even though Patrick is trying to be helpful, he is rather presumptuous coming into the store and telling David what he’s doing wrong. To prove this point, David immediately explains his strategy of splitting the cost with local vendors, showing Patrick he knows what he’s doing.

8 Best: Defining David’s Business

Patrick first meets David when David comes in to get a business license. While Patrick attempts to be friendly, David is a nervous wreck about the whole thing and is not very helpful in filling out the necessary forms.

When David fails to be able to provide basic information like the name of the business or what kind of business it is, Patrick suggests he take some time to think it through and come up with a more complete idea of what he wants the business to be. While David takes it as an insult, it ends up being helpful advice.

7 Worst: Giving David Space

Just as Patrick and David’s romance is heating up, Patrick’s ex-fiancée comes looking for him. Since David didn’t even know Patrick was previously engaged, he starts to have concerns about their relationship and whether he can trust Patrick.

However, David quickly gets over these fears and is ready to forgive Patrick. Unfortunately, Patrick decides he’s not giving David enough space and suggests they take a break for a while, unaware that is the last thing David wants.

6 Best: Investing In The Store

While David has a surprisingly good handle on his idea for the general store, Patrick recognizes that he will need some help getting things off the ground. Specifically, he tells David that he will need more start-up money if he wants it to take off.

Patrick tells David that there are grants that can help with businesses that work with other local businesses. He proposes that he help David get these grants in exchange for going into business together.

5 Worst: Calling Out Ronnie

When Patrick decides to renovate the bathroom in the store, he calls upon Ronnie to get the job done. But when some setbacks occur and the work takes longer than expected, Patrick starts to think Ronnie isn’t giving the job her full effort.

When he sees Ronnie having lunch in the cafe instead of working, Patrick confronts her and suggests she get to work or be fired. Ronnie lets him know she is buying Roland lunch because he is her tile guy and she quickly puts Patrick in his place.

4 Best: Grand Opening

Once Patrick and David partner for the store, they start to look ahead to its grand opening. David is clearly nervous about the store being a failure right out of the gate and he tries to push for a “soft launch” to promote the exclusive feel of the store.

Patrick is more interested in promoting the store and launching big. He goes along with David’s wishes, but as the soft launch starts to gain more interest, Patrick helps David realize that everything will be fine and the store’s big opening is a great way to start their business.

3 Worst: Playing Baseball

Though David and Patrick make a great couple, they are also very different in a lot of ways. One clear example of this is when Patrick ropes David into a baseball game. Despite David’s insistence that he hates sports of any kind, Patrick convinces him to play.

Patrick tells David that he will just be “a body on the field” and won’t have to do anything which ends up being very untrue. It also doesn’t help that Patrick is very competitive and embarrassed by David’s lack of athleticism.

2 Best: Open Mic

Despite Patrick and David’s best efforts, their store struggles to find customers in its early days. In order to establish it as a more welcoming and important location in the town, Patrick recommends they host an open mic night to attract people.

Once again, David does not see eye to eye with his partner on this idea and feels it is off-brand. But Patrick is persistent and the open mic turns out to be a huge success for the store as well as an opportunity for Patrick to express his feelings for David.

1 Worst: The Happy Ending

When David wakes up on his wedding day to discover the weather has ruined their planned venue, he begins to have a slight meltdown. However, Patrick anticipated this would be a stressful day for his groom-to-be so he arranged for David to have a relaxing massage.

Certainly, Patrick’s attempts to help were well-placed, but he also accidentally arranged for David to receive a “happy ending” with his massage. Thinking it was Patrick’s idea, David gladly accepted, which makes for a strange wedding day present for a monogamous couple.
