Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

Schitt’s Creek is one of those rare shows that is truly an optimist’s dream come true. It could very easily have become a show that was cynical in its outlook, particularly since the Roses are, at the beginning, spoiled and entitled. However, time and again it showed instead the beauty at the heart of people, showing that there is a lot of good in the world and in the town of Schitt’s Creek (even if the town doesn’t always make a lot of sense).

There were few characters as relentlessly kind and sweet as Ted, the veterinarian with the heart of good who emerges as one of the show’s most likable characters. Paradoxically, however, his sweetness could be a source of annoyance for both the characters and the audience.

10 Annoying: Too Nice

Ted is one of those people who doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in his body, and this is revealed time and again with his interactions with…well, pretty much everyone that he sees or knows.

While obviously this is part of what makes him such a charming character, it also has to be said that it can make him pretty darn insufferable sometimes, and there were times when viewers probably wished that he would show some aggression.

9 Sweetest: How His Self-image Of Himself As A Bad Boy Is Just Putting Hats On Pets When No One Is Around

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

There’s something absolutely adorable about Ted. Like many people who are truly nice people, he has a bit of a self-image problem, in that he thinks he has some bad boy tendencies.

In his case, it basically boils down to putting hats on pets and having a bike. Now, of course this is very cute and sweet, and it really does show the audience that Ted is a good guy without a truly mean bone in his entire body. Small wonder that Alexis ended up falling for him.

8 Annoying: Wouldn’t Even Send Back Clearly Wrong Food At The Cafe

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

Some people like to make trouble for waiting staff, using even the slightest excuse to send their food, careless of how much trouble they might cause. Ted, however, is the exact opposite.

In fact, he often refuses to send back, even when it is clearly not what he ordered. While this might have made him popular with servers everywhere, it’s also something that starts to be a bit annoying, when it becomes another expression of his inability to stand up for himself.

7 Sweetest: Is Willing To Give Up The Galapagos For Alexis

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

It takes a special sort of guy to be willing to turn down what is basically his dream job for someone who already ditched him, but that’s exactly what Ted does when he offers to give up going to the Galapagos for Alexis. It’s a sweet gesture, all the more so because it’s clear that this is something that he wants more than almost anything else, but he clearly sees their relationship as having a chance at success.

It also shows that Ted does truly love Alexis and basically has since the two of them first got together.

6 Annoying: Kissing David

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

No matter how much he might love Alexis, that doesn’t mean that Ted is immune from acting like an idiot, particularly when he’s had a bit too much to drink. After all, who could ever forget that moment when, after getting quite drunk at a party, he kissed David during a game of spin the bottle?

It’s hard to say why, exactly, even drunk Ted would do that, but one can definitely see why Alexis (and Patrick) would be very annoyed indeed at this particular turn of events.

5 Sweetest: Coming To The Singles Week

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

After Ted breaks off his little relationship with the local farmer, he ends up coming to Singles Week, where at last he confesses that he does indeed love Alexis (how could he not, when she’s one of the show’s funniest characters?).

It’s one of those absolutely beautiful and heartwarming moments that this show does so well, and it makes Alexis, and the audience, fall in love with him all over again. The only drawback was that it took him so long to finally accept that he wasn’t ever going to find happiness except with Alexis.

4 Annoying: Dating That Farmer

Now, it’s probably not entirely fair to blame Ted for wanting to find emotional happiness and fulfillment with someone other than Alexis. After all, she did break up with him not once but twice (a decision that makes no sense). Anyone who’d gone through that would probably want to find love wherever they could find it, and Ted finds it with that farmer.

However, the audience can’t help but feel annoyed with him, particularly since it’s become clear by this point that Alexis is deeply and hopelessly in love with him.

3 Sweetest: When He Accepts The Inevitable And Breaks Up With Alexis

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

At the beginning of the final season, it seemed possible, though increasingly unlikely, that Alexis and Ted would be one of the final couples.

Unfortunately, they both had to accept the fact that they were never going to be able to pursue their relative careers while they were in a relationship with each other, and their breakup is one of the sweetest moments, as each of them makes it clear that, though they won’t be together any longer, they will never stop loving each other.

2 Annoying: Refusing To Admit His Obvious Feelings For Alexis

Schitts Creek The 5 Most Annoying Things Ted Ever Did (& 5 Sweetest)

Before he comes to Singles Week, Ted does quite a lot of back and forth about whether he’s going to go through with getting with Alexis.

One can’t blame the guy for doing so, considering their history, and it’s only David’s timely intervention that seems to tip the scales. For viewers very invested in their relationship, however, it was rather exasperating to see him sitting on the fence for so long.

1 Sweetest: His Many Skype Dates With Alexis

Once Ted goes to the Galapagos, it gets rather difficult for him and Alexis to keep up the same level of personal involvement with one another’s lives.

However, one has to give Ted a lot of credit for being willing to go through the hassle and headache of Skype dates in order to spend as much time as possible with the woman that he loved. In fact, it was probably those Skype dates that kept the relationship going as long as it did.
