The series The Seven Deadly Sins is filled with many interesting and mysterious characters. With everything from druids, to demons, to giants, the series has a wide variety of mythological creatures that are categorized into clans and races. One of the five major races is the Fairy Clan, which includes the first-ever fairy king, Gloxinia.

Although he doesn’t make his initial appearance until later in the series, Gloxinia is an underrated character with a lot of depth. And despite not being one of the main characters, he goes through a significant amount of character development and growth, some of which went unnoticed by viewers. For the fans who may have missed them, here are 10 things about Gloxinia that are commonly overlooked.

10 He Is One Of The Oldest Members Of The Ten Commandments

Upon first glance, Gloxinia appears to be a young woman with long red hair and fairy wings, but he is quite the opposite. Despite his youthful appearance, Gloxinia is a male fairy that is significantly older in age. In fact, when compared to his fellow members of the Ten Commandments, he is the second eldest, following behind the leader, Zeldris, who is 3,000 years old. He lived to be approximately 1,400 years old before dying at the hands of one of the highest-ranked members of the Demon Clan, Chandler.

9 He Has The Same Demon Markings As Meliodas & His Brothers

Although he has no blood relation to Meliodas, due to a mishap in the design, Gloxinia appears to have the same demon markings as Meliodas and his brothers. In the manga, his marking is unique to his Commandment, but in the anime adaptation, his marking resembles that of Meliodas, Estarossa, and Zeldris. There are many fan theories and explanations for this, but it was not intentional. It was simply a mistake in the animation made by A-1 Studios.

It’s obvious to most, if not all fans, that the elite warriors of the Demon Clan known as the Ten Commandments are based on the ten Biblical commandments. Gloxinia is the Commandment of Repose, which parallels the scripture, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it Holy.” This refers to the seventh day of the week known as the Sabbath, on which all man should refrain from work, rest, and take time to recognize and appreciate God’s creation of the world.

Those who have watched the subbed versions of both The Seven Deadly Sin and Dr. Stone may have noticed that Gloxinia’s voice is remarkably similar to the voice of the main protagonist, Senku.

This is because both characters are voiced by the same voice actor, Yusuke Kobayashi. Kobayashi has had voice acting roles in over 60 shows, films, shorts, and games, some of which include some very popular animes like Re: Zero, Food Wars!, and Fate.

The power of King, the Grizzly’s Sin of Sloth, is recognized by all, praised by most, and even feared by some in the world of The Seven Deadly Sins. However, his power level does not exceed that of Gloxinia. Even after passing the trials to reach his full potential and obtaining his fairy wings which brought him to his maximum power level of 41,600, King was still less powerful than his Ten Commandment counterpart, Gloxinia, whose power level was 50,000.

5 He Has The Largest Wings In The Fairy Race

Compared to all the other fairies within and from the Fairy King’s Forest, Gloxinia’s wings are, by far, the largest. As the first king of the Fairy King’s Forest, he wears two massive, rainbow-colored butterfly wings on his back that allow him to not only fly to great heights but also move at an immensely fast speed. His wingspan surpasses all those within the Fairy Race, and his lustrous wings give him a very distinctly powerful, yet beautiful appearance.

The Spirit Spear Basquias, known as the legendary spear derived from the Sacred Tree, is a weapon that was granted to and wielded by Gloxinia. The weapon holds immense power, and similar to King’s weapon, Spirit Spear Chastiefol, it takes many forms known as configurations.

Gloxinia’s Spirit Spear Basquias has a total of 10 configurations ranging from second form, Guardian, to its 10th and most common form, Emerald Octo. However, the third and fourth forms were never shown and remain a mystery.

The parallels between Gloxinia and King did not go unnoticed among fans. They share very similar histories, which were revealed during the Memories of The Holy War arc. Both Gloxinia and King struggled with the near-death of their little sisters and held a grudge towards the men they thought were responsible. In Gloxinia’s case, he chose to kill Rou to avenge Gerheade, but King made the choice to forgive Ban and befriend him as he realized that Ban had good intentions and truly loved Elaine.

1 He Could Never Use His Heart Reading Ability To Read Meliodas’ Mind

As a member of the Ten Commandments and the most powerful fairy among the Fairy Race, Gloxinia has many strong abilities. Like other fairies, he has the ability of Heart Reading which allows him to hear other people’s hearts, thoughts, and true intentions. Gloxinia was able to use Heart Reading against his all of his opponents except for one–Meliodas. Meliodas’ ability to suppress his thought and emotions while maintaining a blank face made it impossible for Gloxinia to ever read his mind.
