Miranda is always the most career-driven of the four friends. A successful lawyer, she refuses to compromise, in court or at home. Her relationship with bartender Steve is complicated at first due to the disparity in their incomes.

Many women can empathize with Miranda’s struggle. Traditional gender roles are still present and can be the source of conflict in a relationship. However, and as society strives towards having more women in positions of power, situations like this will hopefully become a thing of the past.

3 “He’s Just Not That Into You.”

Jack Berger is perhaps, the least memorable of Carrie’s boyfriends. He is also the most hated because of how he breaks up with her, with the infamous “I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me” Post-it. Still, and despite his short stay in the series, Berger provided one of the show’s most memorable lines.

When Miranda describes a date she had with a man, her friends insist that it’s not bad that he didn’t come up to her apartment. On the other hand, Berger delivers some hard truths and tells Miranda the guy’s just not that into her. With guys, he says, there are no mixed signals. He then drops his mic, leaving the girls shocked.

2 “I Love You Too, Richard, But I Love Me More.”

After he cheats on her, Samantha gives Richard another opportunity. Their relationship actually becomes more stable and mature, but she still doesn’t trust him. Things reach a boiling point during a trip to Atlantic City when Samantha is convinced he’s cheating on her.

In the end, she decides that she simply can’t trust him. And while she loves him, she loves herself even more and isn’t willing to live her life in fear and doubt. Now, almost 22 years later, the moment remains one of the show’s most empowering and defining and a true lesson in self-love.

1 “Faith That I Would One Day Meet Someone Who Would Be Sure That I Was The One.”

Carrie’s first major heartbreak comes in the season 1 finale, “Oh Come All Ye Faithful.” She realizes that Big is unwilling to welcome her into his world and begins to doubt their future together. Just as they’re about to take a trip together, Carrie asks him if she’s the one, and when he’s unable to answer, she breaks up with him.

It’s one of Carrie’s strongest moments because she puts herself first. And while the sentiment doesn’t last for long, and what comes next somewhat diminishes the moment’s impact, it remains one of Carrie’s defining moments and one of Sex and the City’s most iconic scenes.
