Throughout television history, there have been iconic moments that have shaped the industry for what it is, and for what it can be; when it comes to portraying a group of women that are strong, successful, and independent, Sex and the City nailed it on the head. After 94 episodes and two major movies later, there have been some very iconic moments in the Sex and the City world, but as always, some things haven’t quite aged well for the good.

Fortunately, since there is a confirmed reboot in the making called And Just Like That…, which is very exciting, and gives the series a chance to address some iconic elements that might’ve slipped through the cracks. There are some iconic series that have been rebooted, and hopefully, the new Sex and the City series will take a few notes from the reboots that did it right.

10 Stay: The Friendship Amongst The Women

One of the most pivotal messages of the Sex and the City series and movies is the bond Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charlotte had with each other. No matter the ups and downs of a job, relationship, or health, the women were there for each other with open arms and a brunch date to gossip. It is also important to note that the women come from different backgrounds, but have a friendship like no other.

In fact, some of the best advice in Sex and the City came from the likes of Miranda, cynical or not. This is something that should continue to be portrayed in the mini-series, because it’s what fans have always loved about the series, and the women on screen portray their friendship beautifully.

9 Updated: Racial Issues

The late 1990s and early 2000s were a different time, and outlooks were a bit different, but that doesn’t change the fact that the show was lacking diversity. There were important characters that shined a light on the fact that the cast was predominately white, but it wasn’t enough.

It’s hard to ignore the fact that New York City is one of the most diverse cities in the world, which was why it was hard to believe the cast wasn’t more blended. Since it’s been announced Samantha Jones won’t be returning for the series, this gives producers a chance to somewhat redeem themselves and include diverse characters. There isn’t a series out there that is perfect, but a Sex and the City reboot is a perfect way to smooth over the mistakes they made.

8 Stay: Tackling Important Issues

While the show might have missed the mark on some important issues, it wasn’t all shoe shopping and fashion shows, the show did tackle several real issues. Fans will remember when Miranda lost her mother in season four, Trey and Charlotte’s infertility issues in season three, and Samantha’s cancer diagnosis in season six.

These moments relate to realistic situations, which gives this series a one-up to engage with fans and stay away from too many unrealistic scenarios that often happen in television shows for dramatic effect.

7 Updated: A Realistic Outlook On The Gay Community

Two of the best characters on the show happen to be Anthony Marentino and Stanford Blatch. They were colorful, had loads of wisdom, and were very successful; which is why it’s a shame they weren’t portrayed to their full potential.

Anthony and Stanford were reoccurring characters throughout the series, but they remained stereotypes through and through. If either of them come back for the mini-series, perhaps their stories can move past the surface and leave behind the terrible judgments from the Sex and the City series.

6 Stay: Carrie’s Column

One of the main avenues to get into Carrie’s head was when she was in her apartment, and in front of her laptop. After a love lost or a life lesson, Carrie would use the experiences for her column, with some pretty insightful questions. They weren’t always the best quotes from Sex and the City, but they grounded the show, and let fans inside the mind of the main character.

Hopefully, this transitions into the mini-series with new and exciting scenarios that will present themselves through Carrie’s writing gig.

5 Updated: Realistic Lifestyles

Even though the ladies are successful in their own right, sometimes, the lengths they would go to buy outlandish things was a bit much. These days, fashion choices don’t have to be all high-end designers, and instead of portraying a scenario well beyond some people’s means, (remember when Carrie had little to nothing to her name because she bought too many shoes?) It would be much more realistic and relatable to tone it down a bit.

Fans know that Carrie was a lover of shoes through the Sex and the City series, and most times, it seemed like she lived well beyond her means.

4 Stay: The Fashion

On the other hand, the series and the movies have some very iconic moments when it comes to fashion. Looking back, some of the best outfits in Sex and the City were in the series, and now that fashion trends are coming back, it works. Somehow, it felt like fans were going shopping with the women, day in and day out, which is a great release from reality.

Sex and the City, for the most part, does a good job at dividing and conquering hot topics, which is why this series was so successful.

3 Updated: The Main Characters’ Backgrounds

The Sex and the City sequel had some great moments, and when fans got a look into the Fab Four’s early years in New York City, it was exciting. So exciting, that it might be a good storyline to dive even further into, to really get a feel for where it all began.

This might give the cast and crew a chance to open up new storylines, gain a deeper sense of where the women came from, and how it shaped who they are today.

2 Stay: Independence And Empowering Women

One of the main reasons this series did so well is that it told the story of four different women, from four different backgrounds, but with similar issues. It also shined the light on feminism, female empowerment, and the growth the women made during the series.

Even though it seemed like the women were always chasing or trying to find their next “big love,” they each had their share of moments to prove how each of them are strong individuals.

1 Updated: Storylines About Fidelity

Even though there was some complex, but great relationships throughout the series and in the movies, there wasn’t a shortage of infidelities the women committed or went through. Since all four women are in seemingly good places and relationships at the end of the second movie, it would only muddy the storyline.

Instead of focusing on damaged or unhealthy relationships, the reboot should focus on the good in the relationships, and how they’ve grown since the movies.
