Life simulator The Sims 4 announced its newest expansion pack ahead of the Summer Game Fest kickoff on June 10, 2021 that includes farming, a new neighborhood, and llamas. Sims 4 players who received mysterious postcards from Henford-on-Bagley finally got an answer to the mystery of this mysterious new hamlet. Rather than introducing a new, exotic locale for players’ Sims to visit and explore, The Sims 4 will now allow Sims to enjoy the simple life of cottage living.

The Sims 4 is the fourth major title in the popular franchise from Maxis and EA. The Sims 4 released in 2014 and has received ten expansion packs since its release. The most recent expansion pack, The Sims 4: Snowy Escape, introduced Mt. Kmorebi and wintertime activities including snowboarding, skiing, sledding, and hotsprings. The Snowy Escape expansion pack released in November 2020. Since then, however, sleuthing Sims players and fans have been piecing together clues from EA’s announcements, trying to determine what the next Sims 4 expansion pack would be. Now it appears they have their answer.

A brand new trailer on The Sims Youtube channel reveals all the new features that will come with this new expansion pack. Titled The Sims 4: Cottage Living, introduces a brand new neighborhood, Henford-on-Bagley. Set in the picturesque countryside, Henford-on-Bagley contrasts to the existing Sims 4 neighborhoods that feature city-scapes, small towns, and odd landscapes like deserts and islands. The newest neighborhood appears to be much more spacious and sparse. Its buildings and architectural style are also far less modern than most existing neighborhoods, with an aura that is out of a fairy tale. It’s also populated with plenty of new creatures including foxes, rabbits, and the famous Maxis llamas.

Cottage Living will also provide Sims the opportunity to live off the land by introducing a new farming mechanic. Sims can now grow their own fruits and vegetables, buy farm-fresh ingredients in the market, and even forage in the wild for new ingredients. Farming will also allow Sims to raise animals like cows, chickens, and llamas, which produce food and other materials. In fact, llamas have been the mascot for Maxis’s studios since the original Sims game released back in 2000. To finally see them join the Sims 4 is quite honestly overdue.

The new expansion pack looks to be a promising installment in the Sims 4 for players who want to live the simple life. Rather than trying to concern themselves with getting their Sims ahead in their careers or hitting the club, players can spend their days petting llamas and milking goats. That certainly seems like a good way to relax.
