Sister Wives Why Fans Think Kody Replaced Christine With Robyn

Fans of Sister Wives have criticized Kody Brown’s inability to treat his wives equally, and one strong accusation made against the polygamist is he replaced Christine with Robyn. It’s obvious to not only the Sister Wives’ fanbase but to the reality show’s stars as well that Robyn is Kody’s favorite wife. From the timing of his marriage to Robyn to Christine’s consistently unmet marital needs, here’s why viewers think Kody swapped out Christine for Robyn.

In addition to there being a noticeable difference in the attention Kody affords his first three wives and the affection he volunteers to Robyn, there’s also a significant gap of time in between Kody marrying his third wife, Christine, and his fourth wife, Robyn. Kody married Meri, Janelle, and Christine in swift succession, in the years 1990, 1993, and 1994, respectively. Kody and Robyn’s wedding day, however, didn’t take place for over 15 years after the polygamist patriarch tied the knot with Christine. With Robyn’s induction into the family came intense dynamic shifts. Chiefly, Kody’s emotional connection with his first three wives nosedived. Over the years, Christine has become more comfortable voicing her concerns about her relationship with Kody, who fans think already gave up on all of his marriages except for his fourth.

One similarity between Christine and Robyn is they both seem to want a monogamous relationship more than a polygamous one. Fans regularly theorize that Robyn doesn’t like to share Kody and keeps him from adding new sister wives to their plural marriage. Christine has also demonstrated that she would thrive in a marriage without sister wives as she’s expressed fear of losing control when living at home with all of Kody’s wives and children. Unfortunately, only Robyn is receiving the monogamous relationship treatment from Kody. One Reddit user wrote, “Christine and Robyn want the same things from Kody but he doesn’t see Christine’s needs as worthy… Kody’s priority will always be Robyn’s brood.” Kody displayed this favoritism when he didn’t show up for his and Christine’s daughter, Ysabel, when she got major spine surgery. Kody had made a point to be present at an operation for Robyn’s son, however.

In addition to favoring Robyn’s children, fans also think Kody was suspicious in his timing of bringing his fourth wife into his plural marriage. Specifically, viewers thought it was strange that Kody got married to Robyn while Christine was pregnant. Fans interpreted this as Kody growing less interested in Christine as she became a mother and wanted a newer model, so to speak. The fan on Reddit commented, “His new shiny new toy was out of commission so he started courting Robyn.” Another Reddit user responded that Christine, “became truly useless to [Kody]” after she wasn’t able to have more sons. Kody shifted all of his attention to Robyn, even when Christine was in labor with her youngest daughter, Truely. Kody was late to the hospital because he was spending time with Robyn. A Reddit fan wrote, “Kody was… a trash father to Christine’s kids during Truely’s birth episode.”

Kody is committed to his polygamist ideals, however, his blatant favoritism tells some Sister Wives fans that Kody can only be interested in one wife at a time. From prioritizing Robyn’s kid to getting married to another wife during Christine’s pregnancy, audiences venture Robyn served as Christine’s replacement. As the Sister Wives season 16 trailer indicates, Christine isn’t far from leaving the family and finding her own replacement for Kody.
