Pets of Skyrim is a Creation added to Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition that allows Elder Scrolls fans to have five new unique creature companions.

Originally released in 2018 on the Creation Club, Skyrim Anniversary Edition’s Pets of Skyrim added five new tamed creatures to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Each animal comes with its own unique name and appearance, including a special ability that can be used in combat or gathering resources. Alternatively, once Elder Scrolls fans have purchased or built a player home, they can have their new pets remain at their residence.

The Pets of Skyrim Creation adds five new pets: Hilda the pack goat, a fox with the nickname Sweet Roll, a rabbit named Thistle, a trained frostbite spider called Arachnia, and Skritch the sewer skeever. Players can equip their pets with cosmetic Animal Collars or Animal Packs, which increase the Carry Weight of the animal. While followers in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim undoubtedly provide more utility in terms of gameplay, the Pets of Skyrim offer a charming shift in visual and minion companionship.

To obtain the animals in Pets of Skyrim, players must first begin the “Pets of Skyrim” questline. Start the quest by going to The Bannered Mare inn in Whiterun. Once inside, walk over to the tavern’s owner Hulda and read the “For Sale” note sitting atop the counter. After the player receives a notification that the quest has begun, travel to the first pet’s location — Rorikstead.

Note that while the pack goat is the first animal players must acquire in “Pets of Skyrim,” they are free to obtain the remaining four in whatever order they wish.

Hilda, the first animal companion in the Skyrim Creation mod, can be purchased from Halvar, a farmer in Rorikstead, for 200 gold. She comes pre-equipped with an Animal Pack that allows her to carry a total of 140 points in Carry Weight. Players will occasionally be able to collect milk from her as well. After obtaining her as a companion, players can progress the questline by reading Halvar’s Journal lying on a bedroll near her pen.

Sweet Roll the fox can is located in the forest south-southwest of Half-Moon Mill in Skyrim. The tamed fox will be standing next to a dead Thief and will join the player after being fed a Sweet Roll (food), which can be found in the dead Thief’s inventory. The player can have Sweet Roll search for nearby valuables, such as weapons, armor, jewelry, or Miscellaneous Items such as gems.

Thistle is a trained rabbit that players can find outside the abandoned Alchemist’s Shack south of Ivarstead. After being fed a carrot, Thistle will become the player’s pet. Thistle’s unique ability is finding nearby harvestable ingredients which can be used in Alchemy.

Arachnia, the trained frostbite spider, can be found locked within a cage inside Skyrim’s Cronvangr Cave south of Windhelm. To rescue the pet spider, slay the dungeon’s Vampire Naturalist and her companions to get the cage’s key. Arachnia can spawn web traps on the ground that can be used to ensnare enemies in combat.

Skritch is a skeever trapped in a cage within the Ratway underneath Riften. The key to the cage can be found on a dead Pickpocket nearby the Thieves’ Guild underground sewer entrance. Skritch has a keen sense of smell and will look for nearby Food items if ordered by the player.
