Snatch 2 Vinnie Jones Wants Brad Pitt Guy Ritchie & Jason Statham For Sequel

Actor Vinnie Jones says he wants Brad Pitt, Jason Statham and filmmaker Guy Ritchie to reunite for Snatch 2. The original film arrived in 2000 as a follow up to Ritchie’s smash hit, 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Despite the critical acclaim of LSTSB, Snatch surpassed its popularity, bringing in $83 million on a $10 million budget and paving the way for Ritchie’s future in Hollywood as a blockbuster filmmaker.

With its mixing of plots and often confusing tales of British gangsterism gone awry, Snatch doubled down on the formula that had made LSTSB so engaging and funny. Brad Pitt played the intentionally indecipherable Irish boxer Mickey O’Neil, an audience favourite among a colourful wider cast. The characters largely spend their time either looking for a priceless stolen diamond or being caught up in the insanity of the underground crime scene and its links to the amateur boxing world. The film marked the last time that Jones and Ritchie have worked together on the big screen, and for many fans of both LSTSB as well as Snatch, the wait to see the two talents working together again has been far too long.

While talking with LADbible recently, Jones revealed that he would love to reunite with Ritchie and the cast of Snatch for a sequel. Aside from simply wanting to revisit old times with the likes of co-stars Pitt and Statham, Jones wasted no time in relaying just how great of an idea Snatch 2 would be. The actor insisted that, were it to happen, the film would be “an absolute blockbuster.” At present, it doesn’t seem that Ritchie has given any indication that the film is even being considered, but as Jones says, “you never know.” Read Jones’ full comments below:

“I’d love to do Snatch 2. Especially in America, they say, ‘Are we gonna see Snatch 2? A few years ago there was a rumour about Lock, Stock, but I think worldwide Snatch would be the one to do. I’d love to get the boys back for that one. I think it would be enormous. I think it would be an out-and-out smash. It would be an absolute blockbuster, before it was even shown. You never know with Guy [Ritchie], you know what I mean? J [Jason Statham] and Guy just did a movie together. I mean, who knows? I know Matthew Vaughn [producer] would be up for it, Guy would have to write it. It’s a dream-maker but you never know. You never know. But the good thing is, it wouldn’t be ‘oh, not one of them again’. Everybody would be looking forward to it. I think it’d be the hottest ticket in town for a premiere… Bring Brad [Pitt] back.”

Despite there not currently being any real buzz surrounding the possibility of a Snatch sequel, Ritchie has certainly not abandoned the story in recent years. The film was adapted into a TV series back in 2017, with Harry Potter alum Rupert Grint executive producing and starring in the project. Though the series only lasted for two seasons, its mere existence helped keep the love for the original film alive while securing a new fanbase. Given that, Jones could be correct in his assumption that a Snatch 2 would go over big with audiences.

It is important to remember, however, that the success that Snatch found back in 2000 wasn’t at the same level that hit films achieve today. $83 million is indeed a lot of money, but even coming off a small $10 million budget, it’s not quite hitting the “blockbuster” status that Jones feels a sequel will offer. At best, Snatch 2 could be a great way for diehard fans to re-live Ritchie’s London underground once again. But the idea that the film could be much more is somewhat tough to believe.
