SpiderMan 10 Best Villains Who Have Never Been In A LiveAction Movie

There have been seven live-action Spider-Man movies including two franchise reboots, and the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home is using almost every villain that’s existed up until now. From Green Goblin and Doc Oc to Electro and Vulture, most of Spider-Man’s best adversaries have been seen on the big screen.

Even so, the movies haven’t yet been forced to dig for Spider-Man’s more obscure villains. With as many members of his Rogues Gallery that have appeared thus far, there is still an untapped reservoir of villains from the comics that could be used for future installments.

Swarm

One of Spider-Man’s more bizarre and silly villains, Swarm is a former Nazi scientist turned swarm of hyper-intelligent bees. With his consciousness spread throughout the swarm, Fritz von Meyer can control the bees to do whatever he commands.

This character may not be main antagonist material, but he’s worth seeing on screen for the novelty alone, even if it’s as a one-off gag or a background villain similar to the Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Scorpion

Though Mac Gargan has appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, played by Michael Mando, he has yet to appear in his fully fleshed-out comic book version, stinger tail and all. In the comics, Scorpion ties into a storyline where J. Jonah Jameson funds and produces supervillains to hunt down Spider-Man, and has even been a member of the Sinister Six.

Scorpion is a fun match-up considering the factoid that scorpions are a spider’s natural predator, but he’s generally more of an enforcer or used in a team-up scenario, so a storyline involving multiple villains would probably be the best use of him.

Smythe

Fans will recognize this recurring villain from the ’90s animated series. Alistair Smythe has a deep hatred for Spider-Man and uses his father’s wealth and designs to his villainous ends.

He constructs Spider-Slayers, cybernetic drones designed to hunt and kill Spider-Man, and later augments his own body with cybernetic enhancements in order to take him on in a fight. B.J. Novak made a cameo appearance as this character in Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he never quite donned his cybernetic suit.

Mister Negative

Mister Negative is a more recent addition to Spider-Man’s Rogues Gallery and has only seen an adaptation in the Spider-Man video game for PS4. He is a striking visual, as well as a potentially compelling antagonist.

He has multiple personas: Martin Li, a benevolent philanthropist, while the other personality, known as Mister Negative, is an aggressive crime lord. This villain could present an interesting thematic foil, as Spider-Man is consistently about the conflict between good and bad, right and wrong, right down to his origin story.

Chameleon

With his ability to impersonate anyone, Dmitri Smerdyakov, known as the Chameleon, could provide an excellent opportunity for a more espionage-oriented story for Spider-Man.

In the comics, Chameleon has even impersonated Spider-Man. Such a plot point could be used to incite conflict in the story, with Peter having to deal with the fallout of a doppelganger’s misdeeds. A story like this could even utilize Peter Parker’s day job as a journalist, perhaps having him cover the photography of the story whilst running his own investigation.

Kraven The Hunter

A consistent struggle for Spider-Man is the fact that he has enemies that will go through great lengths to hunt him down, and there’s no hunter more fearsome than Kraven. In the comics, Sergei Kravinoff spends time in the African wilds hunting exotic game until he finds his way to the concrete jungle of New York City, where he takes on the task of hunting the masked vigilante Spider-Man.

This would be an interesting match-up, as Kraven is not physically enhanced to the degree other villains are, rather he relies on his cunning hunter instincts to take down his prey. It was, at one point, rumored that Kraven could be the villain of the next Black Panther movie, and fans even picked Jason Momoa as their favorite cast for the role.

Black Cat

Felicia Hardy made a brief cameo appearance in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and was teased to play a larger role in a franchise that never panned out. The Femme Fatale is typically portrayed either as a thief with a heart of gold, or a self-interested cat burglar, in either case, generally her motivations are not as grandiose as other villains.

In the comics, she and Spider-Man have had an on-again-off-again romantic/flirtatious relationship, which could make for some romantic conflict with MJ if done right. While perhaps not a fit for the role of main villain in a live-action Spider-Man movie, she could make an interesting third-party rogue element, similar to Catwoman in Batman Returns.

Prowler

Mahershala Ali, who oddly enough is now playing Blade in the MCU, played prowler in Into the Spiderverse. His turn as the character was well received, but no doubt if the MCU intends to have Miles Morales, they will have to revisit the character in live-action.

The character has already been established, with Donald Glover making an appearance in Homecoming as Aaron Davis. He even hints at Miles Morales’ existence when he tells Peter he has a nephew. The twist of making Spider-Man’s lost family member–a la Uncle Ben–themselves a criminal is a compelling one, and one that fans would likely want to see in a live-action adaptation one day.

Jackal

Miles Warren is a genetic scientist who specializes in cloning. His greatest claim to fame is being the main villain of the Clone Saga in the comics, which spawned such characters as Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider and Kaine, an imperfect Peter Parker clone.

The use of Jackal as a villain could bring a different angle from the usual Spider-Man-versus-themed-Villain-story, pitting Peter Parker against different versions of himself and thematically depicting his struggle within himself.

Kingpin

Though Wilson Fisk is more of a Daredevil villain, in the comics Kingpin has frequent run-ins with Spider-Man. With Spidey being agile and quick while Kingpin is inexplicably large, dense and slow, but heavy-hitting, this would be an entertaining physical match-up.

There’s also the interesting angle that is usually used with Kingpin: the fact that he is a public figure while maintaining his position as a crime lord either in secret or in a way that he cannot be confronted or persecuted on. Heroes will often try to tackle him from a legal or public defamation angle, and the same could be done with Spider-Man using his position in a news outlet (if they ever end up putting Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in that position). A story like this could even involve a team-up with Daredevil, who is rumored to make an appearance in No Way Home.
