Spider-Man: No Way Home was supposed to have an emotional scene referencing Uncle Ben, but it was ultimately cut from the movie. Marvel Studios opted to just gloss over the character’s death, only dropping a few vague references in the MCU movie. The film’s writer has previously said the Spider-Man: Homecoming team actively chose not to portray Ben’s death, since it had already been done in several previous Spider-Man movies.

After Marvel and Sony started their Spider-Man partnership in 2015, Tom Holland’s wall-crawler was subsequently introduced in Captain America: Civil War the next year. The character starred in his first solo adventure with Spider-Man: Homecoming, but by then he was already an established hero having experienced the famous radioactive spider bite, with the writers again choosing not to re-hash his origin story. There have been nods to this version of the hero’s Uncle Ben throughout the “Homecoming trilogy,” although the character hasn’t been explicitly mentioned in any of Peter Parker’s standalone movies thus far. Instead, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) played Spider-Man’s mentor role. Admittedly, not all fans were thrilled with this, with many still hoping to see Uncle Ben in the MCU.

Apparently, Spider-Man: Homecoming was meant to feature an emotional moment that tackles Peter’s grief over Uncle Ben’s death. During a watch party session for the movie, writer Jonathan Goldstein revealed in a Twitter post that there was a scene where Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) helps Peter choose suits from Uncle Ben’s collection, revealing that she has yet to get rid of his things. Goldstein didn’t reveal why they decided to scrap the scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but there are a few reasons as to why this happens in films. Scenes are most often cut due to runtime or pacing issues. Whatever the case may be, it establishes that there was an intent to highlight Uncle Ben and the role he played in Peter’s life. That being said, Goldstein’s recent comments revealing that Marvel never considered actually revisiting Uncle Ben’s death in Spider-Man: Homecoming reiterate the decision to differentiate Holland’s version of the character from those that came before him. While this remains to be a divisive narrative element in Peter’s MCU arc, it doesn’t mean that the Holland-led films can’t highlight how important Uncle Ben was to his nephew at all.

Marvel Studios may have entirely skipped Spider-Man’s origins and decided on a different narrative route in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but this could be changing. For starters, it has been recently announced that the animated show, Spider-Man: Freshman Year will tackle Peter’s first year of high school, which could reveal more of his relationship with Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Moving forward, the character will star in a brand new MCU trilogy after Spider-Man: No Way Home, giving Marvel Studios plenty of time to reveal more about Uncle Ben.
