Screenwriter Jonathan Goldstein says the original script for Spider-Man: Homecoming included five more Captain America-style PSAs featuring the Avengers. Following the high-stakes of Captain America: Civil War (2016), Homecoming provided the Marvel Cinematic Universe with some much-needed levity as it formally introduced its titular webslinger in his first solo outing. Like Civil War, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) graced the film with his presence, serving as a mentor and father figure to Peter Parker (Tom Holland). Ironically, Tony’s estranged Avenger, Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) also made a surprise appearance and got even bigger laughs than the self-proclaimed billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.

During the events of Homecoming, Cap is on the run with the Secret Avengers so he does not show up in person. Instead, he is seen via a series of teen-targeted PSAs shown to the students at Peter’s high school. The PSAs see Rogers preaching the virtues of fitness, discussing puberty, and scolding those in detention. Clearly, Cap recorded these before his falling out with SHIELD and then the government.

During ComicBook.com’s #QuarantineWatchParty for Homecoming, Goldstein, who penned the film alongside John Francis Daley and director Jon Watts, revealed even more PSAs were supposed to be featured in the film. According to the screenwriter, there were ideas for five education videos with Avengers in them. Check out his tweet below:

Many more Captain America PSAs that never made it into the finished film can be found on Homecoming’s Blu-ray release. However, none of those deleted scenes feature anyone but Cap. So, Goldstein could be referring to those. If not, it’s unlikely any PSAs starring other Avengers ever made it to production due to it being unnecessary and expensive to have characters like Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), or Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in a film where Downey was reportedly paid $15 million for three days, making him the highest-paid actor in Homecoming. Still, it’s fun to imagine Bruce Banner lecturing physics students.

The Homecoming trilogy has seemingly aged with its star. While Spider-Man: From From Home still contained the humor of its predecessor, it was a slightly heavier film without a single awkward PSA. Now, Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be the biggest MCU film since Avengers: Endgame. The film will see Peter dealing with the aftermath of his secret being revealed to the world, seeking Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) help, and haphazardly unleashing villains from the multiverse.
