SpiderMan Miles Morales Who The Undergrounds Boss Is

Releasing as a launch title for the PlayStation 5, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be available on PS4. The new game has the web-slinging superhero taking on a variety of villains, including a mysterious organization known as The Underground. This organization has many high-tech gadgets and weaponry, and its enigmatic leader is a villain straight out of the comic books, but not quite how readers may remember.

As a follow-up to Insomniac Games’ wildly successful Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has a new protagonist and plenty of twists along the way. Previous trailers for the game have shown Miles Morales fighting off Spider-Man villains like the Tinkerer and Rhino. But there have been plenty of action shots showing him taking on a high-tech gang known as The Underground, too.

The Underground is a terrorist organization that’s wreaking havoc on New York City. Throughout the game, The Underground is warring against Roxxon, a fictional corporation from the Spider-Man and Marvel universes. Roxxon Energy has a long history in Marvel comics and especially Spider-Man media, but The Underground is a seemingly new faction that first appears in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The Underground is led by the Tinkerer, but this version of the character is different from ones previously seen in the comics and movies.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Tinkerer Explained

In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the leader of The Underground is the Tinkerer. This new iteration of the villain is quite interesting. The Tinkerer in the game is a young woman, while the character has traditionally been an old man. The Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Miles Morales isn’t afraid to fight the superhero up close either, whereas past versions of the character made weapons behind-the-scenes for Spider-Man’s more famous foes. This makes the Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Miles Morales feel like a true villain, rather than just some background baddie.

[Warning: Spoilers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales below]

In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the Tinkerer is actually Miles’ childhood friend Phin. This creates some very well-executed emotional conflict between the two, as both of them are trying to accomplish a similar goal with wildly different methods. The Underground didn’t begin with The Tinkerer (game lore states that they’ve been around for a while) but she’s the one currently in charge thanks to Phin’s fantastical skills with electronics, and after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man The Underground was able to move in quickly and sieze territory from all the gangs that Peter Parker defeated previously.

It’s a smart choice having the Tinkerer and The Underground in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It adds a bit of freshness and originality into the game, since it’s using a traditional Marvel character in a new and interesting way. Introducing fans to a completely new organization in the form of The Underground is another way the game keeps itself from retreading familiar Spider-Man territory – and fans should love it.

While other Spider-Man villains like the Rhino appear in the game, the Tinkerer and the Underground serve as some of the primary antagonists, along with Roxxon’s Simon Kreiger. As a terrorist group that functions around technology, The Underground and Tinkerer are pretty formidable foes. Now that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is out, players can take on the villainous group once and for all.
