Nickelodeon has announced that SpongeBob SquarePants’ best friend, Patrick Star, is getting a show of his own, titled The Patrick Star Show.

13 episodes of The Patrick Star Show will air this summer on Nickelodeon. This is the second spinoff of SpongeBob SquarePants, with the announcement coming the same day that the first spinoff, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, debuts on the Paramount+ streaming service.

The newly greenlit series is a prequel to the original SpongeBob, focusing on Patrick’s adolescent years living with his family. Nickelodeon’s official synopsis reads as follows:

The Patrick Star Show follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. His little sister, Squidina, works behind the scenes to make sure Patrick’s show is always running smoothly, while his parents, Bunny and Cecil and his grandpa, GrandPat, each support Patrick in their own hilariously absurd ways. The Star family’s unpredictable adventures often inform, integrate, and sometimes even interfere with Patrick’s TV show, but one thing is for sure: his bizarre life always makes for great television!

Bill Fagerbakke is reprising his role as Patrick Star. The voice cast includes Tom Wilson as Cecil Star, Cree Summer as Bunny Star and Grandma Tentacles, Jill Talley as Squidina Star and Dana Snyder as GrandPat Star. Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) will also make appearances in the series.

Patrick’s parents previously appeared with different names (Herb and Margie) and designs in the Season 2 SpongeBob SquarePants episode, “I’m With Stupid.” The Patrick Star Show’s redesigns appear to combine elements of their original designs with the designs of Patrick’s fake parents from that same episode, while also giving them more distinct color palettes. Tom Wilson voiced both Patrick’s real and fake parents in said episode.

Ramsey Naito, the President of Nickelodeon Animation, said that “Nickelodeon is diving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a look at our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family with a sitcom only he could imagine up. This second original spinoff allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and connect with our audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”

The Patrick Star Show stars Bill Fagerbakke, Tom Wilson, Cree Summer, Jill Talley, Dana Snyder, Tom Kenny, Rodger Bumpass, Carolyn Lawrence, Clancy Brown and Mr. Lawrence. The series premieres this summer on Nickelodeon.
