Squid Game has been a hit sensation for Netflix, despite its utterly horrifying premise. The characters were all compelling and the deep underlying themes were thought-provoking far beyond the surface focus of the series.
When it comes to shows that are so wildly popular, it’s fun to imagine the characters in other scenarios. For example, which characters in The Sopranos would win Squid Game? Or, how would the main characters in a death-defying show like Squid Game perform in a horror movie?
10 Abdul Ali
Despite Ali being one of the most likable characters on Squid Game, he is the most likely to be killed in a horror movie. He was vulnerable, scared, and easily manipulated. Just as Sang-woo took advantage of Ali’s kindness and gullibility, chances are the same would happen in a horror movie.
Ali would be the one the group sacrifices to discover something pertinent. They would use Ali because he would be easy to convince to do their bidding, even if what he was about to do meant walking right into danger. His decision to trust Sang-woo was Ali’s worst decision in Squid Game, so it’s likely he would make the same decision when faced with similar circumstances.
9 Han Mi-nyeo
Mi-nyeo is the type of character whose mouth might get her trouble. She would let her guard down long enough to be taken down by the monster, character, or killer in the horror movie. She would last long enough to provide some entertainment, but chances are she would be the character who went against what the group wanted to do and would end up being killed for it.
Mi-nyeo showed that she was unpredictable and also wasn’t afraid of facing fears head-on. And this is precisely what would make her an easy victim to take out in a horror film.
8 The Salesman
The Salesman is the type of perfectly put-together character who would be killed early on in a horror movie for the purposes of making a statement and suggesting that no one – not even the best-looking, most successful people, are immune to the horrors that everyone is about to face.
He would likely be someone who was taken out precisely because of his power and influence. He might initially try to emerge as a leader of a group trying to escape a terrorizing killer. But it wouldn’t last long. The catalyst might be his desire to look out only for himself. He would be willing to throw others under the bus for the sake of his own survival, which could backfire on him.
7 Seong Gi-hun
Gi-hun might have been the main protagonist and had the most satisfying character arc on Squid Game, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he would have the best chances of survival in a horror movie. He didn’t have many discernible skills, and it seemed his kindness towards Il-nam is what helped keep him alive long enough to finally get to the end, along with a bit of luck.
Gi-hun made a lot of mistakes on Squid Game, but he also showed he had a kind heart, which is why Gi-hun might die earlier on than some other characters in a horror movie. Because of his selfless nature, his cause of death could also be that he sacrifices himself for others.
6 Jang Deok-su
Deok-su was a career criminal, a brutal and violent man, which alone means he would last in a horror movie since he would know how to fight back. He has experience getting away from bad guys and isn’t afraid to kill someone, likely having done it many times before. A killer with a mask or a monster of some kind wouldn’t scare him as much as many others.
Deok-su is also the type of person who would push someone else in front of a killer to save himself. His selfishness alone is what would help him last longer within any type of horror experience, even if he didn’t make it to the end.
5 The Front Man
The Front Man ranks high on the list simply because chances are he would be the killer in a horror movie, not a victim. A mysterious figure wearing a mask, he’s reminiscent of many other characters from horror movies who have worn masks, from Jason in Friday the 13th to Michael Myers in Halloween and even Jigsaw from Saw.
With that said, even if The Front Man wasn’t the killer himself, he has the mentality to be a leader and to think like a killer, which would help him survive longer than others.
4 Kang Sae-byeok
Sae-byeok was an immediate fan favorite, a young and agile woman with seemingly nothing to lose who was also motivated by family: she would do anything to help her mother and little brother. She was one of the bravest characters on Squid Game.
With that said, the knowledge of being somewhere and in danger alone would motivate Sae-byeok to do her best to survive any horror. She would be most likely to come up with clever plans to escape, just as she traveled through the vent system in Squid Game to find out what the workers were up to. Her quick thinking and impulsive action would help her survive longer than many others.
3 Cho Sang-woo
Sang-woo was smart and resourceful, but most importantly, he was ruthless, cunning, and sharp. He was always several steps ahead and could think outside the box. That’s precisely the type of thinking that would help him outsmart a killer. He would know what to do to hide, escape, or fight back.
Sang-woo was also a very self-serving person, which means he would do whatever it took to survive, even if it meant taking out friends and allies in the process.
2 Oh Il-nam
Because of his age, Il-nam would by default be the person that everyone would want to protect. But he is also fiercely smart and has lived a long life, acquiring a lot of experience. Chances are he would be the person to know the history of whatever was going on, whether it was supernatural, a menacing serial killer, or something else.
Hiding his true identity was the worst thing Il-nam did on Squid Game. So, he is also likely to be a secret mastermind behind whatever is going on, calling the shots while others around him try to fend off the threat using physical prowess.
1 Hwang Jun-ho
Jun-ho was the cookie-cutter police officer character, the one who used his skills and resources to infiltrate a secret island, hide out, and find out what was going on. He gathered evidence quietly, even managing to thwart the fierce workers when they realized he was there.
Jun-ho had the intelligence, skill, access, and experience to be the one to survive the longest when there’s a threat. He would be, after all, the first person someone called when something was amiss. So, he was used to responding in such terrifying situations.
