Star Wars 10 Animated Costumes That Need An Upgrade Moving Into LiveAction

The Star Wars franchise has been absolutely thriving in the world of animation, and the live-action shows on Disney+ have clearly been inspired by these ongoing shows that proceeded them. Many franchise characters are moving from animation into live-action, but that means their costumes need updating.

In some cases, the original design simply won’t work in the new medium. Some of the costumes require further changes to really become memorable while others are absolutely perfect but could turn the dial up even more. With so many iconic figures available, Star Wars fans are going to be in for a treat when it comes to the upcoming adaptations.

Cal Kestis

Although Cal Kestis hasn’t appeared in any animated shows, he has starred in Jedi: Fallen Order and has yet to appear in live-action. The poncho look is one that a lot of fans could get behind.

But his basic armor and pilot-esque clothing leave a lot to be desired. For his live-action appearance, the character needs to up his wardrobe game a little. The poncho should definitely be present as his defining piece, alongside the torso armor, but it needs to stand out a little more, perhaps drawing a little from ancient Jedi lore and providing a unique twist to the mythology.

Captain Rex

Captain Rex’s early appearances of course rely on the Clone armor that has become so famous within the franchise. However, as he gets older he still dons that same uniform, which continues to change in its meaning for the rest of the galaxy, becoming a symbol of dread.

For a live-action appearance, the character could utilize his original costume once more. However, as Captain Rex’s character arc evolves, it seems appropriate for an upgrade, which will take him away from his Clone roots finally and define him as a hero in his own right.

Asajj Ventress

The uniform that Asajj Ventress has worn has never been overly inspiring. The dark colors, simple shapes, and hooded cloaks have been largely in line with what the rest of the Sith wear. The bounty hunter helmet she began to use was definitely intriguing, but the rest of the suit didn’t live up to it.

Ventress has such a rich history as a Sith apprentice, a Nightsister, and a Bounty Hunter. The character, if she is ever to make her way to live-action, requires an outfit that reflects all of these aspects of her life. It should be entirely representative of her and draw from the imagery associated with her different paths.

Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger’s costuming might have matured as he has, but it is still fundamentally a piece that largely works in animation. A live-action translation of the iconic suit might not really work, which means there are some updates required before he can make a future appearance.

The character is sure to be a lot older the next time fans see him and therefore his uniform should reflect that. Although it can pay homage to what came before, really fans want to see him in full Jedi garb, now that he has embraced his Force-wielding destiny.

Cad Bane

Cad Bane’s look is undeniably cool. There’s certainly no problem taking this costume and bringing it to live-action. Yet the Western elements could be brought into play even more, with further gadgets and other unique aspects brought into the design.

The gas mask and hat of course have to stay, as do the boot boosters, trench coat, and wrist gauntlet. Bane deserves to be treated in the same way as a Boba Fett and his suit is a great place to start.

Mother Talzin

Mother Talzin is one of the most dangerous mystical forces alive in the galaxy. Her witchcraft is unmatched and she brings with her an atmosphere of dread and mystery that few others replicate. Her costume represents that effortlessly.

Yet, live-action audiences have not witnessed her displays of strength. Her floating red garments could be emphasized even more to try to fully push the idea that she’s a being from another world. Ancient runes should adorn the cloth, as the material appears to move by itself. An older Mother Talzin would be interesting to see, as her green energy keeps her alive through natural means, permeating through the costume.

Hondo Ohnaka

Hondo Ohnaka is a fan favorite for those who have kept up with the animated side of the Star Wars universe. His goggles and helmet have become a staple of the character and the rich colors that have been chosen for his uniform really stand out and reflect the wealth he tries to portray.

Next time fans see Hondo he surely would have hit the big time. His costume in Rebels left a lot to be desired and didn’t live up to his initial appearance. He should be kitted out with jewels and have only the best spice-bought garments to wear. The character’s image needs an overhaul from the grizzly pirate he was previously portrayed as.

Satine Kryze

In regards to great wealth, the Duchess Satine’s clothing always served to showcase her position within Mandalore, as well as her power as a diplomatic force. They were elegant and understated, subtle yet radiating power in a way only Satine could.

For her live-action appearances, the costume designer could have a lot of fun with that idea. Her hair pieces are a stand-out feature, alongside her earrings and headwear. Even more glamorous concepts could be brought forward for Satine that could elevate her immaculate look further.

Savage Opress

If there are to be more live-action portrayals of Darth Maul then perhaps, as fan theories suggest, Savage Opress could also be making an appearance. The hulking brother of the former Sith apprentice is masterful in his combination of lightsaber combat and brute strength.

The character’s costume is really lacking, though. Although it pays slight homage to Maul, it’s essentially a basic piece of black armor. As Savage’s gifts grow, the character could make some kind of return to screen with a uniform more fitting of someone so powerful in the Force — one that nods at Sith lore doesn’t blend into the background.

Omega

Omega is simply in her early stages of evolution and her costume consequently reflects that. She’s still largely wearing the clothing associated with her time on Kamino and doesn’t quite fit in with her Bad Batch brothers. Her new bow and arrow weapon could be a sign of things to come.

She could in theory boast a uniform that matches that of the other Clones. This kind of armor might not be particularly suitable for Omega, though, who perhaps deserves a sleeker design that compliments her weapon of choice and her energetic personality. Her simple garments definitely need an upgrade for battle.
