While The Mandalorian and its spin-offs are busy exploring the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, a lot of the other upcoming Star Wars series on Disney+ are filling in the gap between the prequel and original trilogies. There’s a long space between the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the rise of Luke Skywalker that Lucasfilm is diving into.

From the rise of the Empire to the fall of the Jedi to the early days of the Rebellion, plenty of plot points from Revenge of the Sith are continuing in Star Wars’ streaming shows.

8 The Rise Of The Empire

Hayden Christensen has been cast to reprise his role as Darth Vader at the height of the Empire’s powers in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Set between the Empire’s initial stages in Revenge of the Sith and its full might in the original Star Wars movie, Obi-Wan Kenobi will show how Imperial forces took over the galaxy.

Whether or not the Emperor will appear has yet to be confirmed, but Ian McDiarmid’s turn in The Rise of Skywalker proved he still has what it takes to play the role to perfection.

7 Obi-Wan’s Climactic Duel With Vader

One of the most beloved set-pieces in Revenge of the Sith – and the entire Star Wars saga – is Obi-Wan’s intense showdown on Mustafar with his fallen apprentice, Anakin. In the current canon, this is the last time that Obi-Wan and Vader clash lightsabers before their ultimately fatal rematch on the Death Star.

The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series will feature another rematch between the two, midway between their duels on Mustafar and the Death Star.

6 The Fall Of The Jedi Order

The prequel trilogy depicts the Jedi Order’s fall from grace. At first, the Jedi struggle to adapt to a galaxy at war, since they’re supposed to be guardians of peace, and then they have to contend with the slaughter of their entire religion.

The Star Wars content on Disney+ is dealing with the fall of the Jedi Order. Resilient former Jedi Ahsoka Tano is getting her own post-Return of the Jedi series, while Luke’s initial attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order is being explored on The Mandalorian as he takes on Grogu as an apprentice.

5 Luke Is Raised By Uncle Owen And Aunt Beru

Joel Edgerton is reprising his role as Uncle Owen and Bonnie Piesse is reprising her role as Aunt Beru in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This will follow on from the end of Revenge of the Sith, in which Obi-Wan dropped baby Luke off at the Lars’ moisture farm.

It’s possible that the series will explain why Uncle Owen hates Obi-Wan in the original trilogy. Maybe he blames Obi-Wan for Anakin’s downfall, or maybe he just distrusts the Jedi.

4 The Mysteries Of Cloning

There are a lot of unanswered questions from the Kamino subplot of Attack of the Clones. As George Lucas focused Revenge of the Sith on Anakin’s turn to the dark side, he had to sideline the mysteries of Kamino’s cloning operation.

The central conflict in The Mandalorian seems to be dealing with the dark science of cloning head-on as the Imperial Remnants are apparently scheming to clone Grogu for his M-count. Lucas never resolved why the Republic’s clone army was commissioned. The Mandalorian might be building to a payoff in this area.

3 The Great Jedi Purge

The most shockingly violent sequence in Revenge of the Sith sees Vader and the Emperor launching the Great Jedi Purge. Vader slaughters everybody in the temple on Coruscant, including the younglings, while Palpatine orders the Stormtroopers across the galaxy to kill the Jedi generals they were assigned to protect.

While the Purge wiped out most of the Jedi, a select few like Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Cal Kestis managed to survive. In his new streaming series, Obi-Wan will be hunted by the Inquisitors. Ahsoka Tano, who’s also getting a solo spin-off, is one of the few Jedi to avoid the Purge and survive all the way through the Imperial era (not even Obi-Wan or Yoda managed that).

2 Obi-Wan’s Self-Exile On Tatooine

At the end of Revenge of the Sith, while Bail Organa takes baby Leia to Alderaan to raise her as royalty, Obi-Wan takes baby Luke to Tatooine to be raised as a moisture farmer while he watches over him from afar in self-exile.

It seems unlikely that Obi-Wan just sat alone at home for over a decade before R2-D2 arrived to summon him into another intergalactic adventure. The upcoming Kenobi series will fill in this gap.

1 The Early Days Of The Rebellion

After Palpatine uses his absolute power to reorganize the Galactic Senate into the Galactic Empire at the end of Revenge of the Sith, the Rebel Alliance is formed by Bail Organa and Mon Mothma in a last-ditch effort to fight back.

The Rebels wouldn’t have their first major victory until they stole the Death Star plans, but it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get there. Andor will explore the early days of the Rebellion through the eyes of a low-level Rebel spy doing the top brass’ dirty work.
