Star Wars 9 Will Introduce the TIE Dagger

Fans have been given their first look at one of The First Order’s newest ships in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: the TIE Dagger. Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens released back in 2015, fans have seen a wide array of new technology in the form of ships, weapons, costumes, and more from both the Resistance and the First Oder. Some standout choices that come to mind include the AT-M6 and the Dreadnought from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In terms of promotional material for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, this is the first time the TIE Dagger has been introduced, so it’s tough to say how it’ll function differently when compared to the rest of the First Order’s ships. And new ships aren’t the only thing fans will be seeing for the first time in Star War: The Rise of Skywalker, as Disney has already shown off a new design for the Sith Troopers, as well as a closer look at the Knights of Ren – although it’s unclear what role they’ll both play.

The TIE Dagger image comes by way of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – The Visual Dictionary. Unsurprisingly, the new ship features the staple solar panels on each side. However, they’re shaped like pointed daggers, as opposed to the hexagon-like sides the base TIE Fighters are known for. In fact, it’s relatively similar to the original trilogy’s TIE Interceptors, with only a few slight differences.

Given the TIE Dagger’s overall design, the ship may very well be made for fast action against smaller enemy ships like X-Wings and A-Wings, for example. We haven’t seen any footage of space combat in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; however, since it’s the final film in the new trilogy, and no Star Wars film would do well without them, fans can probably expect a magnificent space battle – especially considering Billy Dee Williams is making a return as Lando Calrissian, who can be seen piloting the Millennium Falcon in the first trailer.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s overall plot remains a mystery. Much that was left unanswered in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi – like Rey’s lineage, the Knights of Ren, and the mystery behind Supreme Leader Snoke – seem like they’ll all be getting resolutions. We do know that Emperor Palpatine will be making a return, so it’ll be interesting to see how he’ll play a role and what he has been up to behind the scenes of the last two films.
