Star Wars Day What to Play and Watch to Celebrate May the 4th

May the 4th is known as Star Wars Day thanks to its similar sound to the iconic phrase from the franchise, “May the Force be with you.” The celebration has grown to include a number of sales, new product releases, premieres, and more. To go along with that, there are a number of games to play and things to watch for those who wish to spend a little bit (or a lot) of their day celebrating the Star Wars franchise.

The Skywalker Saga has concluded and the future plans for the next big-budget theatrical release remain years away, but there is still plenty of recent and new media to consume and enjoy on May 4th this year.

The Clone Wars

The series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars debuts on May 4, 2020 on Disney+ closing out the animated series once and for all after a seventh season was put into production and returned to Disney+ earlier this year. The final four-part arc of the seventh season of The Clone Wars has been one of the best Star Wars stories told in recent memory, filling in the stories of Ahsoka, Rex, Darth Maul, Mandalore, giving additional context to Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side, Order 66, the Clone Troopers, and more. This May the 4th is the perfect time to watch the finale episode for those keeping up with it, or to catch up on the series. Even though the first eight episodes of the seventh season fills in some gaps, jumping ahead to the final four episodes comprising The Siege of Mandalore arc is a great way to enjoy May the 4th.

Jedi: Fallen Order

May the 4th is also the perfect time for anyone who missed Jedi: Fallen Order to get caught up on this fantastic Star Wars game. Made by Respawn Entertainment (developers of Titanfall and Apex Legends), Jedi: Fallen Order tells a fantastic tale set between Episode 3 and 4. Like The Clone Wars, it gives one of the freshest and most heartbreaking looks at the moment Order 66 was issued, and introduces new characters to the franchise that hopefully get even more time to shine in a Jedi: Fallen Order sequel. Its gameplay is Uncharted meets Sekiro, all wrapped in a Star Wars package that nails the feeling of being a Jedi.

The Mandalorian & Disney Gallery Documentary Series

The Mandalorian garnered instant and ubiquitous praise when it debuted last November alongside the launch of Disney+. The eight-part live-action series brought back a ton of nostalgic Star Wars feels. A classic space Western with a lower budget than the bombastic sequel trilogy, The Mandalorian returns that feeling of the original Star Wars, when George Lucas struggled to get his space fantasy on screen for audiences in 1977. Throw in the surprise of Baby Yoda, a fresh look at the mysterious Mandalorians, and deeper tie-ins to the franchise including The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, it’s no surprise that The Mandalorian not only is at work on a second season but has already been greenlit for a third season. The full first season is available to watch now on Disney+.

In addition to The Mandalorian, those who have seen the series may want to check out Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian. It’s a documentary series that goes behind the scenes of The Mandalorian including interviews with the creators of the series including Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. The first episode of this new documentary series is available to watch on May 4th.

Lightsabers & more in Fortnite

Fortnite is bringing back lightsabers for May the 4th, which first appeared in the battle royale back in December 2019 as part of the tie-in with the release of The Rise of Skywalker. The lightsabers are exactly the same as those available before, coming in four different hilts/colors: Kylo Ren’s red, Rey’s blue, Luke’s green, and Mace Windu’s purple. They still do 45 damage per swing and 150 for a slam, and the block can stop 30 bullets before going on a 3-second cooldown. Lightsabers can spawn on floors or in chests.

In addition to the lightsabers, Fortnite will again offer the Rey, Sith Trooper, and Kylo Ren outfits in the Shop, as well as the Dark Side emote and the Starfighters and the Order and Peace bundles. It is unknown how long these items will remain available, but those interested should grab them this week to be safe.

The Skywalker Saga

Speaking of The Rise of Skywalker, the final episode in the Skywalker Saga will hit Disney+ earlier than expected on May the 4th. That means that fans can stream not only the conclusion of the nine-episode saga, but also watch the saga in its entirety through Disney’s streaming platform. It takes a little over 18 hours to watch the entire Skywalker Saga, so for those with a lot of time on their hands on May 4th, a complete viewing is definitely possible.

Limited Special Edition Games

The collectors out there might be interested in two special edition Star Wars games for PS4 being released this year on May 4th by Limited Run Games. Limited Run Games is known for giving digital releases a special, limited physical release for collectors. The company has chosen to release blister packs for two niche Star Wars game titles from the past on PlayStation 4, Star Wars: Racer Revenge and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. Those interested will need to jump on fast when they go on sale at 12 PM Eastern Time, as there are only 1,000 units available.

Star Wars Game Sales

May the 4th is a good time to expect sales on Star Wars games per respective consoles, of course. Xbox is offering a sale on games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition, and LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Nintendo is offering the following Nintendo Switch games on sale for May the 4th Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy – $16.99, Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Star Wars Pinball.

PlayStation has yet to preview or post any Star Wars Day deals for the PlayStation Store; however, there are a number of Star Wars games already on sale including Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Super Star Wars, Jedi: Fallen Order, and Star Wars: Starfighter.
