Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gives players a modest selection of saber colors to choose from that are available toward the latter half of the game. But of course, one specific color has been on players’ minds since the games first release; red, the color of a Sith Lightsaber. Unfortunately, all hopes and expectations were disappointed once players made enough progress through the game and realized it just wasn’t meant to be. There have been no other color additions since the game’s release, until now.

Fallen Order deals with the subject of lightsabers a lot different than previous Action-Adventure titles, like The Force Unleashed. The Force Unleashed allowed players to locate and unlock a variety of colors and effects for their lightsabers by searching and platforming different areas in the game. Instead, Fallen Order has Cal Kestis pay a visit to an old Jedi planet Ilum, and undergo a trial. The reward upon survival and completion, allows players to unlock all available lightsaber colors for the rest of the game. Of course, players are forced to select only one color at the end of the mission, but after returning to the ship and accessing the customization table, all colors are there available. Here’s how to add that luscious red saber to the collection.

How To Unlock The Red Light Saber In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Just recently, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order released a patch bringing New Game+, new challenges, and a combat arena into the game. After finishing the game, New Game+ will appear and players can embark on a slightly more difficult playthrough. The Red lightsaber is unlocked outright from the beginning of New Game + and can be equipped immediately alongside the inquisitor outfit also available from the start. Simply enter the menu to change Cal’s clothing, put on the inquisitor outfit, and the red Kyber crystal is automatically embedded within lightsaber, equipping itself right along with the outfit.

The Red lightsaber is a welcome surprise addition to the game. Since players should know, red sabers are technically specific to the Sith and Dark Jedi, so it wouldn’t make sense canonically if Cal had been able to use it in the original play-through. In The Force Unleashed Star Killer changes sides and as a born and bred Sith fighting on the side of the light at some point, there isn’t really a limit to what colors he can use. Also, there’s the idea of “Grey Jedi” that teeters in between the dark and light using both sides in order to maintain balance, but so far we haven’t seen any games explore that aspect quite yet. So for now, enjoy tearing up the Empires forces with Cal Kestis looking like one of their very own!
