Stargirl Which DC Hero (Or Villain) Will Cameron Become

Stargirl season 2 is clearly setting up Cameron Mahkent (Hunter Sansone) to become a part of Courtney’s superhero world, but is he to become an ally, or a villain? As many suspected was already the case, it’s now known for certain that Cameron has inherited his father’s ice powers.

Despite being Courtney’s love interest and the son of season 1’s big bad, Cameron hasn’t had that much to do in Stargirl thus far. He spent all of season 1 as a part of Courtney’s high school life and Jordan’s home life. He’s been totally disconnected from the Justice Society vs. Injustice Society conflict, even though a season 1 scene with Cameron blowing out a birthday candle suggested he might possess his dad’s cold breath. To this day, he remains unaware that his father was Icicle, the evil leader of the Injustice Society, or that his grandparents were somehow involved in the scheme to brainwash an entire region of the country. Cindy (Meg DeLacy) considered clueing him in and recruiting him for her Injustice Unlimited team, but ultimately gave up on the idea in Stargirl season 2, episode 5, which significantly increased his screen time on the show.

At the end of the episode, Stargirl confirmed season 1’s tease by showing him accidentally freezing a paintbrush. This of course raises questions about what his fate is in Stargirl, especially since most of the characters on the show are based on DC Comics superheroes and villains. As for Cameron, he’s no exception. In the comics, Cameron Mahkent became the second Icicle, or Icicle Jr. Like his TV show counterpart, Cameron’s father was an old enemy of the Justice Society. Shortly after the original Icicle’s death, Cameron assumed his title and took his father’s spot on the Injustice Society. As one of their main team members, Cameron shared a number of battles with the rebuilt Justice Society.

Stargirl having a tendency to stay close to the comics and Cameron’s history as a villain could be taken as a sign that he’ll take the same path, but it’s at least possible that Stargirl will craft an all-new story for its take on Icicle Jr. At this point, there aren’t really any indications that Cameron shares Jordan’s twisted ideals or his willingness to kill innocents. Since his dad kept him separate from his villainous activities, Cameron seems to be a normal kid who may not want to use his powers for evil. That’s why there’s a chance he could become a heroic Icicle (which doesn’t actually exist in DC Comics).

This seems to be the direction that makes the most sense for his character’s future, but Stargirl could continue to toy with the idea of him following in Icicle’s footsteps. The mural Cameron made in episode 5 demonstrated that he still idolizes Jordan, so finding out the truth about who he really was is sure to be emotionally devastating. What impact that reveal will have on him is currently one of season 2’s biggest questions.
