Stephanie Tanner Actress Thinks Full House Could Be Rebooted Again

Jodie Sweetin, the actress who played Stephanie Tanner on both Full House and its Netflix sequel series, believes the show could be revived once again in the future. The original Full House ran for 8 seasons from 1987 to 1995, a consistent ratings hit that only grew in popularity thanks to syndication. The sitcom centered on the Tanner family, made up of widower Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), his daughters, and his friends who’ve moved in to help raise them. Known for its wholesome storytelling and family-friendly humor, it wasn’t too surprising when Netflix revived the series in 2016.

For 5 seasons, Fuller House proved to be just as popular as its predecessor, winning over old fans and new ones. Audiences were thrilled to pick up with all the Tanners (sans Michelle, as twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen famously turned down the chance to return) years after the show’s original run. Fuller House drew to a close last year and gave a definitive ending to the story. At the same time, in this day and age, beloved properties rarely stay gone forever, and there’s always a chance there could be more.

At least, that’s what Sweetin thinks. Speaking to Australia’s The Morning Show (via 7 News), Sweetin considered the possibility of her ever playing Stephanie again. Though nothing appears to be in the works at the current moment, the actress isn’t shutting the door on the Tanner household just yet. Sweetin said:

“I don’t know, I guess never say never. If you would have asked me twenty years ago if I would be coming back someday to play Stephanie Tanner as an adult I would have been like, I don’t think that is going to happen.

“Who knows, in another 10, 15, 20 years we do ‘Fullest House’ and I get to finally portray my Bea Arthur wannabe as one of The Golden Girls.”

Revivals and reboots remain incredibly popular these days, so there’s a chance that everything could get a second (or in this case, third) shot at life. This year alone has seen surprising returns for shows like Dexter, Law & Order, and Sex and the City. If there’s an audience for a particular show, networks will be quick to capitalize on that. In the case of Full House, it’s already been revived once before. However, there’s something to be said about following these characters at three different stages of their lives. Shows rarely get to do that, and it could be a fun experiment for Full House.

For now, though, Fuller House is the end of the Tanners. Stephanie, along with sister DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) and friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber), got a happy ending in Fuller House season 5, and it might be best not to disturb that for the sake of another revival. There are pros and cons on both sides when it comes to rebooting a beloved show, and it’ll be interesting to see what the future might hold for Full House.
