Stranger Things 5 Questions After Season 3 Episode 7

The Mind Flayer’s plans are coming to a head in Stranger Things season 3, episode 7 – but there are still so many unanswered questions left by “The Bite”. It’s July 4 in Hawkins, Indiana, and the whole town is out celebrating Independence Day. That’s the backdrop to some of the most explosive action in Stranger Things to date, which sees Hopper’s cabin wrecked when the Mind Flayer attacks.

The plot doesn’t massively advance in Stranger Things season 3, episode 7; this episode is largely functional, working out how to get all the main characters headed for the Mall for the final episode. The episode still manages to tug at your heart-strings, though, as Eleven and Will reconcile and the Russian Terminator manages to assassinate the cheerful scientist Alexei.

But will Hawkins ever know just what chaos is going on in its streets on July 4? What is the Mind Flayer’s real plan for Eleven? And why are the Russians willing to operate – and even to kill – in plain sight?

5. Will Hawkins Ever Know About The Chaos Of Stranger Things?

Stranger Things 5 Questions After Season 3 Episode 7

In spite of several years of chaos, the residents of Hawkins are still blissfully ignorant about the threat of the Upside Down. Stranger Things season 3, episode 7 comes closer than ever before to changing that, as the Mind Flayer passes close by to the July 4 celebrations. Presumably every single person who lives in Hawkins is at the fair, a convenient explanation for why nobody notices a gigantic monster rampaging around the town.

4. Why Did It Take The Mind Flayer So Long To Get To Hopper’s Cabin?

Stranger Things 5 Questions After Season 3 Episode 7

The geography of Hawkins has always seemed a little suspect; places are as far apart as they need to be in order to make the plot work or drive suspense. In the case of Stranger Things season 3, episode 7, the Mind Flayer doesn’t initially seem to be too far away from Hopper’s cabin, and it’s clearly shown making its way through the woods at speed, knocking down any trees in its path. In spite of that, though, the kids still have plenty of time to set up defenses.

3. What’s Happening To Eleven’s Leg?

Stranger Things 5 Questions After Season 3 Episode 7

Eleven’s leg is injured during the confrontation with the Mind Flayer at the beginning of Stranger Things season 3, episode 7, and it’s immediately clear something is badly wrong with the wound. It looks as though the injury is infected with organic matter from the Mind Flayer, which allows Billy to trace Eleven. In the worst case, the organic matter will itself contain the Mind Flayer’s virus, which could spread through Eleven’s body and allow the Mind Flayer to gradually take control of her.

2. How Brazen Are The Russians?

Stranger Things 5 Questions After Season 3 Episode 7

Meanwhile, Russian forces close in on Hopper at the fair, and successfully assassinate Alexei as a traitor. It’s a sad end for the cheerful Russian, but it does raise the curious question of just how the foreign spies believe they’re going to get away with this. Presumably, they’re assuming that, once they’ve succeeded in killing Hopper, Mayor Kline will assign a helpful Chief of Police who will help cover all this up. If so, the scale of the cover-up is becoming increasingly concerning, and the Russians have to know they’re risking exposure.

1. Why Do The Russians Only Use One Radio Frequency?

Hopper, Joyce, and Murray manage to escape the fair in Stranger Things season 3, episode 7 and steal a Russian radio to listen in to their foes. Conveniently, even as they drive away from the fair they hear chatter on the radio about the Russians having located “the children” at the Mall. Hopper and Joyce immediately know this can only be their kids, who are pretty much a magnet for trouble. Naturally, this is all really just a convenient plot device to ensure everybody gathers at the Mall for the final episode of Stranger Things season 3, but it does raise the question of why the Russians are coordinating two missions on one local radio frequency.
