Strangers Things Showrunners Tease Season 2 Cliffhanger

The minds behind Stranger Things say that season 2 will explore Eleven’s new status quo and end on a big cliffhanger. While Stranger Things didn’t walk away with any big wins at this year’s Emmys ceremony, the show can now add the prestige of being nominated in multiple categories to its regular social media buzz. The show debuted big on Netflix last year, and the upcoming second season has only increased its profile. And seeing as there are currently no plans for the show to end with season 3, Stranger Things may yet win some big awards.

In the meantime, Netflix and the creators of Stranger Things are promoting the new season and preparing for the future of the show. Netflix has tossed out the idea of shooting seasons 3 and 4 back to back, further backing previous reports that Stranger Things will continue on for at least two more seasons after this year. Now the creative minds behind the series are further teasing what to expect, when the show’s new season premieres around Halloween next month.

TV Line spoke with the Duffer Brothers at the Emmys last night and the Stranger Things creators discussed a bit of what to expect in season 2. There will, of course, be “Justice for Barb”, but no flashbacks or appearances from Shannon Purser. Eleven will also be greatly evolved and as for the big cliffhanger this year? The Duffer Brothers think it at least scores a 7 out of 10.

The Duffer Brothers also spoke a bit about how many more seasons the show will last. Reinforcing reports past, it seems clear that 4 seasons total will be the bare minimum for Stranger Things. The two creatives are clear to point out, however, that they don’t want the show to last too long. For them, each new season is like a sequel, and they don’t seem to have much interest in spreading things to six seasons or longer. That said, they have the endgame in mind and seem fairly confident that 4 or 5 seasons could easily be made.

For fans, Stranger Things season 2 will reveal whether or not the show has more to offer after catching lightning in a bottle with its first season. After all, the more monsters that arrive in the show’s setting of Hawkins, Indiana, the less grounded and less surprising the series will inevitably become. Hopefully, the minds behind the show have a plan to keep the magic alive while continuing to serve up new horrors for the residents of the small town, for years to come.

Stranger Things season 2 premieres Friday, October 27th on Netflix.
