Supernatural 10 Things That Make No Sense About Lucifer

In the world of Supernatural, the Winchester boys have faced an ever-increasing number of evil forces. From demons to monsters to angry deities, Sam and Dean have taken them all on, often ending with one of them dead in the process. Fortunately, this is a show where death is rarely a permanent condition. But the ]most dangerous bad guy they have faced is Lucifer, also known as Satan.

The Lord of Hell has had a seemingly never-ending barrage of plans, mostly related to getting loose and destroying humanity. But he also does a lot of things that don’t make sense.

10 Trying To Possess Sam

Supernatural 10 Things That Make No Sense About Lucifer

Like other angels and archangels, Lucifer can possess a willing host, allowing him to interact with the human world. But archangels like Lucifer have too much power for any old human so they need to find their perfect host or the human body quite literally burns out. Unfortunately for Lucifer, that host was Sam Winchester. Even with Sam being his host, it made no sense for Lucifer to try and possess him as no host was as likely to fight back against him, and be more successful at it, than Sam. It seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

9 Making Crowley His Pet

On his mission to retake the seat of power in Hell, Lucifer had a series of obstacles in his path. A huge one was the demon Crowley who also sought the same thing. At one point, Lucifer decided it would be funny to keep Crowley as a pet.

That move made absolutely no sense he was keeping a dangerous competitor alive as part of a ridiculous joke. While he did eventually kill Crowley, Lucifer could have saved himself a lot of trouble by finishing the King of the Crossroads off much sooner.

8 Kind Of Silly

For the King of Hell, Lucifer could sure be a ridiculous fallen archangel. Maybe it’s due to being imprisoned for so many millennia and bored out of his gourd, but the guy seemed like he’d gone a little crazy. He was constantly doing and saying really odd things, some of them purely for the point of entertaining himself. In that way, he’s a little reminiscent of Q from Star Trek. Both were powerful beings who just seemed to do things because they could. That doesn’t always look as good on Lucifer, though.

7 Possessing Castiel

Possibly the biggest fan favorite character on the show, Castiel was a powerful angel frequently at the side of Sam and Dean. To remain on Earth, he inhabited the body of Jimmy Novak.

As important a character as Cass often was, he frequently got manipulated by the evil entities on the show, Lucifer being a big one. He actually took over Jimmy Novak from Castiel at one point, though the body did not decay for some reason. It’s never clearly explained why Jimmy can handle Lucifer.

6 His Son, Jack

Supernatural 10 Things That Make No Sense About Lucifer

During the course of the series, Lucifer fathered a son with a human woman. Jack Kline was born a Nephilim, a being with the soul of a human and the grace of an angel. They were incredibly powerful. For some reason, Lucifer became obsessed with proving to his son that he was good. Naturally, Lucifer was not good and Jack saw through his machinations. Why Lucifer even pretended to care was confusing, though it probably had something to do with his own daddy issues.

5 Goals, Or Lack Thereof

Why Lucifer does what he does was confusing at the best of times. Sure, he’s obsessed with power and revenge but there had to be more to what he was doing than that.

Lucifer frequently came across as a strange man who committed horrifying acts for dubious reasons. No one would suggest that there’s anything wrong with being crazy for the sake of crazy but there had to be a bigger endgame to his plans.

4 Choosing Vince Vincente

Once again, Lucifer made another odd choice in his human vessel. Vince Vincente was an aging rockstar intent on making a comeback. But his personal demons dogged him, particularly the suicide of a former girlfriend and his sister’s health issues. Lucifer used these demons to barter his way into possessing Vince. But just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Vince was a terrible choice for Lucifer as he actually seemed to burn out quicker than most. Why Vince was chosen has never added up.

3 Destroying Pagan Gods

Supernatural 10 Things That Make No Sense About Lucifer

As much as Lucifer dislikes humans, he hated The Old Gods roaming around Supernatural even more. The main reasons seemed to be lack of loyalty to each other as well as their arrogance. The irony of that was Lucifer had no loyalty to anyone and might have been the most arrogant being in all of creation.

Lucifer went on a pagan god killing spree, taking out many of them at a hotel. His stated reasons for hating them are dubious at best, meaning there was hopefully something deeper lurking behind it all.

2 Why Bother With A Vessel?

Supernatural 10 Things That Make No Sense About Lucifer

When you stop and think about it, it’s kind of odd that Lucifer bothered with a human vessel at all. The whole point was to hide your angelic form so you didn’t scare the humans. But Lucifer didn’t care about humans at all. In fact, he wanted to wipe them out entirely. So why not just wander the Earth in his true form, scaring millions of humans to death? If he did need a vessel, it would make more sense to keep getting new ones and burning them out. Again, Lucifer did not care about the health and wellbeing of humans at all, and this could have been a fun way to take a few out.

1 Daddy Issues

At the core of everything Lucifer did were his issues with God, specifically his feelings of betrayal and abandonment. He was constantly motivated by thousands of years of daddy issues which were at the core of every decision he made. Though he eventually reconciled with God to an extent, that didn’t stop him from being the same old Lucifer. After all that time, one would think Lucifer could have moved on with his life, such as it was.
