Taylor Swift has announced her upcoming short film project with Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink attached. As one of the most successful women in the music industry, Swift has continued to keep busy after she finished her six-album contract with Big Machine. The masters, or the first recordings of her songs, to the first six albums were sold to Shamrock Holdings in 2020, preventing Swift from owning her work. This hasn’t discouraged Swift, however, because in 2019, Swift released Lover with Republic Records, which was quickly followed up with the releases of Folklore and Evermore in 2020 with little notice to her fans. Swift also began working to re-record her first six albums to reclaim her music and has already released “Taylor’s Version” of her second album, Fearless, and fourth album, Red.

Since beginning to work with Republic Records, Swift has been more involved with much of her brand, including the music videos produced for her songs. Previously, her videos were often directed by others, with Swift having few chances to help. Despite this, many of her music videos prove to be quite cinematic, something she’s managed to bring over in her transition between record labels. With the release of Lover, Swift started directing her own music videos, which promises her involvement with any future music videos in addition to any of the re-recordings. She has already released a new lyric video of “The Best Day,” a re-recording from Fearless.

Today on Twitter, Taylor Swift posted a teaser trailer to announce her upcoming short film, All Too Well: The Short Film. This title is referencing her song “All Too Well” from Red and will feature Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner, Teen Wolf) and Sadie Sink (Stranger Things, Fear Street) alongside Swift. The trailer announces Swift wrote and directed the project. The short film will premiere on November 12 and will be 10 minutes long. Check out the announcement below:

Swift has a few acting credits including 2019’s star-studded and critical flop Cats, as well as supporting roles in The Giver and Valentine’s Day. It’s not quite clear how much acting Swift will do in the short film, but she has a bit of experience to pull from should she need it. However, it’s probably her direction that will make this project shine. In addition, O’Brien and Sink both have ample experience and will prove to be great additions to the production. O’Brien has had many roles, beginning with his breakout role on MTV’s Teen Wolf, and spanning to recent projects including a guest spot where he plays himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Sadie Sink, while young, has an impressive list of credits of her own, including Netflix’s Stranger Things and The Fear Street Trilogy.

The announcement definitely excited Swifties everywhere. Fans had been expecting some information about Swift’s next project for some time, though most fans thought the next release would be the re-recording of 1989, her fifth album. From the teaser trailer, which consisted of a single shot of a beautifully autumnal scene, the short film will align with much of Taylor Swift’s latest whimsical and pastel aesthetic.
